Parents of the high school class of 09

Scrappin, was it possibly a housing deposit?

no, it says it's a tuition deposit, says it will hold your place in the incoming class and that it is non-refundable after 5/1/09.

Is the deposit large? If it's a school that S really likes and it's not a strain on your budget, might send it in, but I have no experience yet in deposits. It IS refundable before you need to commit somewhere else. That said, I thought no schools required decisions until May 1????

Good luck you your son, SJTH!

Wouldn't you know that PSAT is changing notifications dates THIS year. Apparently, they will post PSAT scores online in mid-December. And some students have already received their scores.

^^^
You've reminded me how thrilled I am that the testing is behind DS! In some ways it was easier, because the test day was the test day, not an arbitrary deadline like I'm putting on the app process...his EA and UC apps are due 11/30, and he's dragging his feet saying there's still a lot of time.

Do you think "President of the Procrastinators Club" is a good EC?

cpeltz--if so, I'll put my DS up against yours anytime! The UC one won't be done until next weekend, I'm sure! This is the one that kills me because he has to take an extra music class to fulfill their a-g requirements (which he will do next semester at a CC), but probably still won't get in...his GC said that Berkeley only accepted 1 student from his HS last year. Bottom line, I think this is a lot of work in vain. On the other hand, DS is very intrigued by the idea of Berkeley so I don't want it to be me that says it's wasted effort. Oh well.

oregon101: you've been holding out on us! saw on the acceptance thread that your S got his Linfield acceptance! Happy happy congratulations!! How long after completeing his file did he hear ...uhhh just idlely curious ;)

Historymom--S found out yesterday by mail but the admin counselor called and left a "call me" message on Thurs but S was on a retreat. His app took around 2 1/2 weeks after all was in. It comes in a large envelope with "Welcome to the Linfield Community!" which was nice as S was not home and so I did not feel a need to steam it open! Unfortunately, they do not inform the student of their merit $$ until January. Darn.

Can I just say how nice it is here in the '09 thread? I wander out into CC and it seems like some people post to provoke, some look for insult where none is intended and some cannot accept opinions different from their own. (and I'm not talking about the political threads) Here in '09 it's all support and understanding--a safe place to vent. Some of our kids must be competing for admission to some of the same schools, but I haven't seen a whiff of competitiveness. Nicely done!

I agree, chintzy--it's a little support group. I don't think those around us who aren't going thru this can quite relate, so I check here often, too!

Chintzy, I was thinking the same thing the other day and thought I'd appear to sappy if I posted it!

There's never been any challenges, competitiveness, arrogance, superiority, anything on this thread other than supportiveness and cheering for our kids.

Bravo to us!

I just got back from the doctor with my DS, and he has to have some surgery to remove a cyst on the glands in his throat...he'll miss a week of school, and it was a big reality check that this whole college search is not as important as the fact that we have whole, healthy kids. I propose a toast to THEM!

::clinks glasses w. cpeltz:: a toast to whole healthy families and those that keeps em that way! So sorry about your son's impending surgery. Please keep us posted!

Chintzy I am so happy that you and others feel that way! It is nice here. A little nicer since most of our young'uns stepped up to the plate to complete some of their apps and we aren't frettin' as much as we were in September....remember that? It does seem a bit in the past now that we have acceptances rolling in. I do contribute to other CC threads but am happiest when I see new posts on this one.

TwinE did her UC personal statements tonight. TwinK is half-way done We are leaving town for the holiday weekend and both girls need to be done with their UC apps by Wednesday a.m. so it has ignited the proverbial fire under the fannies of both. CSU apps are done :)!!!! and after the UCs are done it is just the final reachy app that remains.

So what are both girls doing as I type this at 7:50 PST? They are upstairs laughing uproariously with their dad and younger brother attempting to teach DH to play mariocart on Wii.

Historymom, there can't be anything better - apps, acceptances, grad school, etc. - than having your daughters laughing with their brother and their dad. Far more important! Cheers to your family.

That said, we're still not done with our apps, but close, oh so close...I can smell it, but the darn kid is still keeping completion at bay!

cpeltz...if our kids end up at the same UCs we have to share a meal. Prayers for your boy! Have a great evening!

Cheers to you Ladies! Sounds like things are on a roll! Wishing you all good luck with the last apps and the acceptances to follow!!!

Just back from S2 audition. Flew 4 hours for a 20 minute audition, is there something wrong with me? No, I'm so proud of him--it went acceptably well (given nerves) and now we wait, and he writes 3 essays in the next 2 days to make a reasonable send to two more Dec. 1 deadlines. Thank goodness he has all week off from school. Oh, wait....I'm having 10 to dinner in 2 1/2 days......should I be thinking about shopping???

Thanks for the support, class of '09-ers!

Hope your son does very well w/the surgery, chintzy. Like the attitude here too -- we can vent, then be reminded that there are other things important (as was said, health, family). Glad the audition went well, SJTH.

Good news yesterday---son got the 'big envelope' from Penn State--admitted to main campus, engineering dept. He's happy!

Jolynne-congrats! That's quite a feat, especially since you're OOS, right? It's actually cpeltz's S having surgery, and I join you in wishing him well & a speedy recovery.

Jolynne; congrats to son!! What I would do for just one acceptance in hand! but that would have required her to apply to one of those schools. Has done Ed app and ea( which she informed me would not happen and "she will just take a gap year"!!)

She has decided not to really focus on other apps until ED decision!! it is negative thinking to do so, HOW ABOUT REALITY?? We can spend vaca in Fla doing apps, well she can and I will just be tortured. Oh yeah and that Ed school only takes like %20.

She told me I needed a vaca alone, maybe a spa to de-stress from this whole thing and to stop stressing her out!! i of course laughed and said I could not afford that and her doing it would get rid of my stress. she was not sympathetic and told me it was really my issue!!
