Parents of the HS Class of 2010 and college years beyond (Part 1)

Thanks everyone for the kind words and for sharing stories of your well-loved pets (or momentarily not-so-well-loved…the rabbits, oh no!) The cat is pretty much royalty here, in his own mind anyway, so it’s hard to tell if he misses the dog or not. We do have another dog who we’re watching carefully but so far she seems fine too. And yes, we were dreading this day and are glad that both boys were home to say goodbye rather than hearing the news when they were off at college.

{hugs back to everyone}

parent56, How is your S’s wrist today?

psychmom, didnt talk to him yesterday…but he is supposed to be soaking and rinsing it so it will drain and taking the medication so i’m hoping he is. maybe he will do his ankles at same time (fingers crossed). he’s petty stoic about his skin so often doesnt tell me…or knows he’ll get a lecture so doesnt tell me

couldnt resist… posted a goodcat and son picture on shutterfrly…both sleeping so the hug is slipping, but that was how oldest and good cat slept for many many years …i was wrong good cat was almost 15

vballmom - I am sorry to hear about the loss of your dog. I had a breakdown when our 10 year old dog died the day after my 17th birthday. It didn’t help with the going away to college aspect.

:sunny::sunny::sunny::sunny::sunny::sunny::sunny::sunny::sunny::sunny:
Thanks for all the good wishes. It feels great.
Nurse psychmom - I hope your patient is doing well today. :heart::heart::heart: And who brings a dog on a college tour? I have been on many tours and never once was there a dog…

jc40 - Teaching licenses also expire here every five years. I missed the lifetime license by a few years, so I will have to make sure I save all my Continuing Education certificates from workshops, etc., for license renewal. Only one license for me… a K-6 license. I have been teaching a long time and still love almost every minute of it… :slight_smile: Your back-to-school date is sooooo early.

GSharpM7 - Cool symbols. I especially like the Hello Kitty!

zoosermom - :heart: LOL re: the roommate conversation. I know your daughter’s roommate will love her!

My friends and I laugh about that all the time! Too funny!

footballmom - I just went to the Marshall web site. It looks great. I think your son will love it there. It looks like the students have lots of opportunities to participate. Our son says he will be more excited when he gets to school, but right now is focused on enjoying summer and his friends. (He didn’t mention his family…)

Wow, teenage_cliche, it sounds like you had a successful and fun day! Yay! Enjoy your vacation! Check in if/when you get a chance. We’ll miss you.

aliceinw - Glad you had a good shopping trip, too. LOL re: the long underwear. I wear lots of Cuddl Duds - for those with girls headed to colder climates, these are awesome. I must have missed this - where is your son’s roommate from?

austinmtmom - {{HUGS}} and :heart: :heart: :heart:

2education - Yes, he still needs his mama! :)

kindredspirit - YAY! It sounds like it was a great day. I’m sure your daughter is very happy! I’m sure you’re having a great day at UPenn today. (Hope IKEA and Tar-zhay were good, too!)

missemily516 - Waving! ~~~~

pugmadkate - I am laughing at you sneaking things into your son’s dorm room. :)

FindAPlace - Sorry to hear about the rain, but glad you are making the best of your time there. Hope the dogs and son are doing well at home.

Youdon’tsay - It is so :cool: that your son has a roommate from China! And how :cool: that your son is looking forward to introducing him to new things. Very :cool:!

vballmom - I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved dog. {{HUGS}}

LIMOMOF2 - Hoping you had a wonderful family visit today. :)

CaliforniaDancer - Fingers crossed for successful registration tomorrow. I hope it wasn’t too hard to say good-bye to your little sister. It was always hard for our daughter to say good-bye to her little brother. I think the reverse will be true now. Despite their six year age difference, they are very close. They have been in the same city for the last two years and it has been really nice.

Lafalum84 - Your cat story has me :)ing. Too funny!

DougBetsy - :slight_smile: :slight_smile: :)

parent56 - Loved the Good Cat story. I’m not sure Crackhead would last long at my house…

mdemvizi - {{HUGS}}

Our son returns from his volunteer camp counseling job tomorrow night. :slight_smile: We had a wonderful dinner date with our daughter and her boyfriend at a brewery last night. We sat on the patio and visited for hours. Nice. She really wants to get a dog and we would only have to take care of it when she does her residency or travels or lives somewhere she can’t have a dog or… I say no, but the dad that is wrapped around her little finger will probably give in. Just so you all know - I am NOT scooping.

Staying :cool: :cool:!

OK folks, the Shutterfly page has now been renamed: “The CC Class of 2010/2014 Prom, Grad and Pet Pics” page! And I have also added a photo of the worlds most annoying cat, doing something annoying.

And to think it all started with us trying to describe prom dresses…

For the newbies, if you want to join the Shutterfly site, send me a PM with your email address. I have the site set up so that only members can view it, and no one can download, email or otherwise share any photos on the site. Please be aware that if you request to join the site I reserve the right to check your CC history to see that you have posted on CC (not just this thread) for a while and are a legit class of 10/14 parent - or student.

yipppeee!! car carrier guy just called… about 1 1/2 hours from now, will be getting sons old car (which he is giving to his youngest brother) from california…and inside is my puter!!! i cant wait… 24 inch Imac.

parent56 - “Crackhead?” I love it!

forgot to say congrats to your son footballmom!! sounds like he got accepted to a great school. i better get into sports so one day i can see him on tv!

only name that would work!! instead of spaying it (which we hoped would calm her down) we should have got her a lobotomy

BT, A dog on a tour, go figure! My S had a total field day, commenting on things like the dog’s possible roommate, the meal plan, the classes, etc. He got my D to laugh a few times, but then she opted to take the mature older sister route!

BT, I hate picking up dog poop! I do it down here because I am alone with the dog, at home H does it unless stalker dog and I are on a solo walk. We have a sevice in NJ called; When Doody Calls! H won’t let me use them.

LOL, acm! That sounds like the kind of service that would be off-limits to me, too. :(

When I was about 4, we had a stray white dog show up at our house. He got into everything. Scattered trash everywhere, chased the cats, barked at the cows , etc. I called him “White D*m Dog”. I was just repeating a similar name my father called him. I thought that was his name…

Sorry Vballmom. Our oldest dog is 10 now- he’s a cocker spaniel. Our “princess” that rules the house will be 8 next month- she’s a maltese. We love them so much.

Husband just got home from his trek across the country. Stopped off to show us his new ambulances on the way into the ‘barn’. He is so proud…to me, they look like ambulances. :slight_smile: Must be a medic thing.

S is home from working at the ATV race. He took the EMT class this past year at night. Balancing it with regular school work and basketball games was interesting. I thought it would be tuff when he decided to do it. He’s finishing up his ride-alongs and has a few more hours in the ER. He’ll be at college when the next test date is, so don’t know when he’ll even think about boards. He may have to wait until next spring or early summer. It will be a good summer job and hospitals or districts are always looking for weekend warriors. He won’t be working this year while at school, but once in a routine, maybe later.

So, if he’s home…good time to pack?! I’m afraid he’ll have a different afternoon plan.

We take him for move in day on the 17th and our daughter’s school starts the 18th. We’ll have to hurry home once we’re done at college for the ‘next big day’. We have decided to leave D at home and she can go for Family Weekend in September.

The beginning of August always makes me sad. Those last few days of summer go by way too fast !

Everyone have a nice quiet Sunday afternoon.

Just adding another 8/28. I can’t believe it’s August!!

BT - I don’t know if I said, but S’s roommate is from Thailand (which, it turns out, is only 11 hours ahead of us, not 12). And I didn’t give S enough credit - he connected with his roommate today shortly after my last post. They talked for a bit, compared ECs, etc., and have plans to talk again tomorrow. A good start.

I enjoy reading the pet stories, but we are not pet people. I have always said I only know one person who is less likely to have a dog than I am, and that person is H. It didn’t take our kids long to figure out that the typical begging would get them absolutely nowhere, and they gave up. When they have their own homes maybe. Meanwhile, I shall go take a peek at the pet pics.

It turned into a nicer day than expected around here. Got a few more things from my list done, but not the work I brought home (now why is it that’s always the thing I leave for last?). Ah well.

BT - waving back!!!

vballmom - sorry to hear about your pup.

Both my D and I have severe pet allergies to just about everything…the last time I got my D a dog (when she was about 5) I ended up in the hospital for asthma, and the dog had to be taken back to where we got him from and the house disinfected before I could come back home :(. We do have 2 outdoor cats, and we had to get the 2nd one because the 1st one cried constantly for attention (he would follow us around the house and go to the nearest window where he knew we were and cry loudly). Once we got a “buddy” for him he was fine and hardly ever cries now except when he’s hungry.

Yet another update: S2 moves in Aug 18 and Parent Orientation is Aug 19th; then freshmen have Orientation through the 21st with classes starting on the 23rd.

We will stay through as much of Parent Orientation as we can. Then drive home 3+hours late on Thursday to see S1 before he jumps on a plane to return to college the morning of the 20th.

I’m enjoying the pet stories, although vballmom and parent56 brought tears to my eyes.

H and I took S out shopping… yet again. This time was to get items he will need for his Orientation Adventure trip. He will be going to Yosemite for 4 days of camping and hiking(I want to go!), he is very excited because we’ve never been. Even when H and I lived in Cal we didn’t make it to Yosemite, he was just working too much.

Happy August everyone! Where is this summer going in such a hurry, anyway?
