Quick question - on a scholarship app, they ask for GPA _____ on a scale of _____. What is the “scale” if 4.0 = A but 5.0 = A in honors/AP class? For example, ds has 4.26 weighted GPA - is that on a scale of 4 or 5? I know this is dumb but my mind has gone away.

to unweight it to a “4” scale, use an “A” as a 4.0, A-= 3.7, B+= 3.3 B= 3.0…etc…unless your school? doesn’t have plusses and minuses only A=4.0 and B=3.0…

in other words, take out the weighting for AP/honors

Well my daughter is 4 for 5 on acceptances, the four being lower choice schools.

She was waitlisted at Northeastern, which was not on her list but since they pursued her and waived the app fee why not? They had 43,000 apps for 2800 spots! This does raise concern that she may not make it to her reach schools.

Ok I have figured out that some of you are from Boston. So why does Boston University have such a late release and quirky call program. If she does get accepted (with $$) it will be difficult to visit on such short notice. Does anyone know if there is a way to find out sooner? It will probably be unnaffordable anyway, but thought I would throw this out there.

She seems to be getting used to the idea she might end up at a safety for debt free education. I preparing my sales pitch for April. I have held off on talking about choices and told her we are not at decision time yet. So heres the pitch–You are on a game show–you when 4 cars–they are not Mercedes–they are new and shiny and bright–you can’t re-sell them–would you turn them down?

My D is also waiting on BU. What is the quirky call program…something else I need to worry about! ha ha I don’t know if there is a way to find out the decision sooner, I wish I did!

They have the students call accepted students STARTING the first or second week in April. I looked on their website. I t does not say that Admits are emailed the news. We are from Dallas Tx. the flight is long and expensive!

Have you looked in the CC alphabetical list for the individual schools? Someone may have an answer there. (thats how I found out one school should have sent a app acknoledgement but we never received it) Also, I have found the facebook group for admits of one particular college very helpful. Folks from admissions check there regularly and answer questions.

first thing that comes to my mind is taxes. Second is how does this sell the lower level dept free colleges?

Wow…not sure I like that. I must have missed it on their website. That does not give much time for decision making and/or visits. I thought they were notified on their student portal thing.

I’m so tired. Ds woke me up twice last night between 11 pm - midnight (I actually fell asleep in between somehow) asking such questions as “mom, mom, MOM! I’m finishing up that scholarship app, what is my GPA?” Then 20 minutes later “mom, mom, MOM! Sorry but do you know my scores and my rank and how many people are in my class?” Are you kidding me? So, not only pro-crastination going on, but disturbing MY sleep? It was due at midnight. LOL! So, he has 5 more scholarship apps on his desk, is this what I have to look forward to? I now have created an index card with all these details in sharpie attached to his desk. I believe I did call him a dumb*** so that makes me feel better.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I am not the least bit Irish, but I will make Corned Beef and Cabbage for dinner tonight.

Fishymom: I’m sorry to hear about the break-in and the aggravation it caused.

ST: I’m sorry about the accident, but happy to hear that your daughter is fine. Unfortunately, teen accidents are much too common. At least now you won’t have that car sitting in front of your house for a year.

Mamom: I loved hearing about the leprechan trap. It’s amazing how much kids love these types of family traditions.

Van and bkcs: I have no idea why BU release decisions so late. They did release the ED decisions a few days early. It would be great if your daughters get accepted and join my daughter at BU in the fall.

Good luck to everyone waiting for big envelopes, emails, calls and anything else. I know how stressful the waiting can be.

Just re checked site for BU and indeed they will be emailed or mailed late March or early April–sorry for mis info-they also hve the call program --I guess i got ahead of myself

BU decisions will most likely be out next Friday, based on the release dates the past few years. Good luck to those waiting! My daughter will be attending BU in the fall and is very excited to be in Boston. We are from South Florida, a coastal, suburban area, so BU will be a big change.

Been busy dealing with car repairs this morning. My daughter is still shook up about this whole thing. She had a restless night, I heard her up a couple of times. She has a friend spending the week with her, so I resisted the urge to get up when I heard her. This is the first time I have seen her so deeply affected by something like this. I guess she is growing up and realizing that mommy and daddy can’t make everything better. And that pretty much stinks!

We have had an egg-scavenger hunt since they were little. Running around the yards finding clues leading them to the big Prize hidden somewhere. Great Fun and pictures.
S1 asked me last week , what we will do this year since he will be away at school!
I did not think of this one
Well, we may just take the egg-hunt to you :D

OWM~Lovely vision of your Mom waltzing with your Son
Great news on the e-mailing back and forth…Some big is coming out of MIZZOu in the next four years
I have some french in me too ;)

Fishy~Hope your D is ok, and the claims are going smoothly :)

Rom828~I would call the offices and make sure they have everything. I had a similar situation last week, adn two schools asked me to fax one doc. The other said it was their IT issue and confirm via e-mail it was all done after a day or two.

Last night was our last Parent Teacher conference, I have been to all of them …It was sad. Most of the teachers taught both our boys and have been true mentors to them.

For most of the meetings I held my tears , but the stories they shared with us were just priceless (oh here i go again). Our boys have been so lucky to be part of such a great program, those teachers, coaches dedication… made them who they are today. Sight, sight, sight…
I do not remember who asked , but yes our school has a GT/GC.

Regarding gifts…I am still debating …I love the VV tote bags for the moms, maybe the school ties for the young men.Teachers and signicant faculty members will receive gift certificates.
All will get a hand written thank you note for the work, effort and dedication they showed the boys.

S2 has an idea of what he wants to do for the school but is not sharing right now ;)

ST: So sorry to hear about the accident, but I’m so glad to hear that your D wasn’t injured. Kudos to your D for getting back behind the wheel quickly.

Fishymom: My husband’s car was broken a couple of years ago and he said that the experience was very unsettling. Nothing of much value stolen in his case, but his sense of security was definitely disrupted. Hoping that identity theft damage control isn’t a huge hassle.

Amanda: Amanda, Amanda, I hear ya! Is there a Procrastinators Anonymous? If so, I have a couple of potential members at my house. S2 is off at a college visit (scholarship competition) this week for a few days. Before he left, I was reminding (NAGGING) him about the remaining scholarship applications that are due soon. Well, they’re not due until next week, so his response “I’ve got LOTSA time!”

Mamom: Love your leprechan trap! I’m surprised at how much my kids – no matter the age – value those types of traditions. One thing I’ve always done is to make a banner and hang it across their bedroom doorway after they go to bed the night before their birthdays. I write a birthday message and then attach long crepe paper streamers. Doesn’t matter how old they are, they expect the birthday sign. When my oldest went off to college, I sent him a mini version (done on an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper) complete with tiny streamers. I included it in a package that I mailed for his birthday. His response …I was afraid I wouldn’t get a sign this year!

Emmybet: Thinking of your Japanese D and friend and hoping that reports from their homes are positive.

Morning all - so sorry about the accidents and the break in; happy noone was hurt but I feel for you dealing with car issues an stolen wallet matters
I really dislike the calling stuff, the late likelies, and the putting kids in buckets by race and gender. It just adds confusion and stress to the already ridiculously stressful process. At one of my D’s targets, there were only likelies for minorities or females at only one of the undergraduate schools, so no worries about no likely. At another some non URM BOYS got likelies, so do we worry; maybe some girls got them too, but we are unaware? I thought we’d get a break from the madness for a month or so, but now we check the mail and the caller ID asap every single day. And, how about letting us know mid march so we can book some flights/plan with a little notice. Venting over.

Morning folks. Very chatty group all day yesterday - boy, was there a lot to catch up on.
Not sure I can keep up today and tomorrow.

Sorry about the car break-in and car accidents. Unsettling. Will use this to remind D that the pocket book shouldn’t really be left in the car She hates carrying it around - it has her license and some money and permanently lives in her car.

Haven’t heard from her at all since the day before - so I assume there’s no more college news! On the other hand, 12 yr old S called yesterday very excited - they clawed their way back and won the game yesterday. So one more final game today - if they win, they are the champions. They’ve had games every single day this week and I’m missing all of them :(

No traditions here for St Pat’s day. But have done the easter egg hunts for the kids - usually easter is around the time of D’s bday and we’ve sometimes made that a party activity. Spent a whole lot of time one year, making up clues and hiding eggs in different places around the house (kind of an easter egg treasure hunt), followed by a word scramble at the end. Kids took about 10 minutes to find all the eggs, figure out the word scramble and then find the prizes. They looked at me and said “Can we do it again?” Ummm…no, it took me a couple of hours to set up!! Nice memories…

H is a church musician so Holy Week is Maundy Thursday service, Good Friday concert, three services on Easter Morning (he leaves the house at 7 am.) Because of that, we have always that The Last Easter Egg Hunt of Easter. For years we put the kids down for a nap after lunch. Now we still try to have The Easter Nap so H can hide the eggs. Last year I think it was almost dark when we did the hunt.
