Parents of the HS Class of 2011 - Original

^^^Agreed. Something is hinky there. I wonder if there’s some kind of typo on her paper work…maybe somebody wrote 1300 for her SAT.

And 1000 Internet Shames on her parents. Great way to drive a great kid into a despair cycle.

**Friday’s Countdown for the “reachy” schools is:

Stanford color=red[/color]- 7 days to go based on the Admissions News posting on the Stanford web site on March 24. :frowning: Another whole week to wait although it is possible the 1st is now the latest possible announcement date and they might advance the date by a day or two.
Vassar - TODAY is the day./color

The big “H” and other ivys - 5 days to go based on the 5PM March 30th announcement date and time. The “lottery drawing” is less than a week away!

March 31st schools - 6 days to go. For all the schools that haven’t announced earlier dates!

It appears that all of the remaining decisions will be released within the next week. Then we can begin the difficult process of evaluating FA packages and scheduling admitted student days visits. April will be a busy month! If your kids have already decided on their final choice you should be very happy!**

I agree that the GC needs to get involved immediately-anything is possible with these crazy admissions but for a kid like that to get rejected at 7 schools-unless she didn’t have any safeties in there it all-doesn’t make sense.

I mentioned this a while back but we had a few cases here where the GC put the wrong transcript in one kids package, and another different GC put the wrong LOR in another kids package-so my comfort level with this process isn’t very high.

I cannot imagine why the parents are angry at her-but there may be a reason for it-perhaps she didn’t listen to them about having a few schools she would have gotten into (although who knows if such a thing exists anymore from what I read on here). If they are angry just because she hasn’t gotten in anywhere than I agree they are jerks.

Wow lots of decisions here today-good luck to all that applied! Great job Avondad for keeping us posted. :)

These parents sound like they are as intelligent as the Eagle Scout’s parents who said college wasn’t needed because “we’re doin’ fine and we didn’t go to college”.

A quick hi. I have not fallen off a cliff. Reading like crazy to catch up with you guys and still 10 pgs to go.

Congrats on all your exciting news, and for the disappointments, well, they made a big mistake and will regret it someday when you’re rich, famous, and living on the Riviera!

Very happy news here, but I am not at liberty to post yet. One small item hangs in the balance and someone (ahem…) doesn’t want me to jinx it.

More soon!

OMG! OMG! OMG! I think maybe our son was chosen for the freshman/sophomore research program at the Mizzou Honors College! I’m holding the envelope up to the light and I can see “Congratulations” and “link you with a professor.”

He will be over the moon if this is true. It pays $1,700 a year for two years but it also means RESEARCH right off the bat and that is HUGE to him…

School dismisses an hour early today due to a competition being held in our buildings. Run, clock, run!

Congrats to all who are celebrating and hugs to those feeling disappointment. And patience to those awaiting decisions. Today is a big day for a lot of kids, best wishes to all!

My D has narrowed down her choices to:

PSU
UMASS
SUNY at Albany
Sacred Heart (Fairfield, CT)
SUNY Cortland

Anyone have any pros and cons about these schools? Thanks!

OWM–Sending happy thoughts your way—

S just texted that he was home from school and no envelope from Vanderbilt today. :(

Now he can get up early tomorrow as the mail comes around 10 AM. His thinking is that “hopefully I have an acceptance packet coming instead of a small decline letter” His rationale being that the larger envelope might take longer in the mail. :)

So we will wait another 21 hours. Sigh…

This process was so much simpler and less stressful before the internet!

great news you guys about Northwestern. It’s a great place to live and learn. keeping my fingers croseed for all of the decisions that are pending.
OWM: I couldn’t be more excited for your son…what a great honor!
I’m pretty upset that parents would blame their child for nothaving done 'enough." There’s so much pressure on these kids…there should be some relief at home, at least. Someone needs to get this girl to her GC stat. The facts just don’t add up, unless her safeties weren’t really what she thought them to be. It sounds like the one who didn’t do enough here was the GC.

AvonHSDad - but with no internet, there would be no CC. Kind of chicken and egg… the internet adds more stress but then provides the means for sharing that stress and commiserating with other fellow travelers on this journey.

Dignified - I agree that the GC needs to get involved, particularly since the parents seem worthless. I recognize that we don’t know the whole story and perhaps this poor girl ignored advice from her parents in her college search. BUT… there is no excuse for abandoning your child, especially in the midst of something like this. Shame on them! Sending positive thoughts and prayers her way!

Thinking of all of you as you receive good news (yay) and bad news (boo). I have to admit to being glad this is over for us but I’m living it all over again through all of you. Hang in there!

@dignified1 - That is such sad news for Ds friend. I can’t believe that her parents are blaming her. She should look at schools with rolling admission that have automatic scholarships for NMF. I can’t imagine schools are rejecting NMFs like that.

OWM - sounds very exciting!!

MOSB the curiosity is killing me. :0

OWM YES!!! WOOHOO!

OWM - Great News! Well, we don’t know what it is yet, but a big envelope with Congratulations on it has to be good news. Very happy for your son.

Mosb – Waiting to hear what the big news are.

Good luck to everyone who is waiting for the decisions today.

We are waiting for 2 more decisions that will be announced on March 30th, but right now I am stressing more about the decision that S will have to make before May 1st. Yesterday he submitted an application to a full ride scholarship and I hoped that he was done with applications of any kind, but he just told me that some of the scanned pages are hard to read (for various reasons –his handwriting being one of them) and we need to resend them. He tried to do it today, but our computer crashed. When I get home, I can see if I can do anything about the computer, otherwise I just need to run to Kinko’s and send a fax. Not a big deal, but I wasted a sigh of relieve.

“Something is hinky there. I wonder if there’s some kind of typo on her paper work…maybe somebody wrote 1300 for her SAT.”

Good point. D’s high school, for some strange reason, decided to completely change the format of their transcripts in the middle of the fall semester! I always order one for home and when I saw the last one I noticed that some of D’s test scores were missing. So, you are right. This might be the problem. I will have my D discuss this with her friend asap.

OWM - I just had to log in to say woo-hoo! What a fantastic 180 from the school-in-Boston-that-shall-not-be-named news a week ago for your son. We are all sharing in your joy – he is one deserving kid.

dignified - can you or your D suggest (firmly) that D’s friend get in to talk with the GC ASAP? There has to be something going on there, I agree. Mean parents. Curses on them!

My thoughts exactly…Fantastic news :D

Another WOO-HOO for OWM son. What an opportunity to be a rock star from day one!
Wouldn’t it be great if this little group of parents discovered a problem with dignified’s friend’s transcript that resulted in an acceptance? Hopeful…
I will be checking MY Ds transcript when I get home for peace of mind.

OWM – If I had another set of fingers to cross…will toes do? I don’t mean to be pollyanna but as the French say, sometimes one must step back in order to leap better. (Sounds better in French; most things do).

Dignified – Your D’s friend is lucky to have you in her corner.

MOSB – Is your D feeling better? What was the response from the school you sent the tape to? Pls forgive me if you mentioned it before; I got behind.
