O-Mom, we were able to go to a very brief portion of one of their previous Admitted Students days in Feb and that will probably be it since we already did the whole campus tour etc last spring.
Weren’t able to see a dorm tho–let us know your thoughts!
Hope you get a beautiful spring day to enjoy the andirondack chairs by the stream :)

^ We saw a dorm room on our tour and it was HUGE! You could play Twister in the middle of the room, seriously. The tour guide said some of the other freshman dorms are slightly smaller, but not by much. My D will overnight there on the 7th, so I’ll let you know what she says about the dorm room she stays in. Hopefully we’ll get nice weather. Somehow my H lost all of the pictures I took when we toured earlier this month. He uploaded them from the camera, deleted them off the camera, and somehow deleted them off the computer too. Grrr. At least we live close enough to go there again and take more pics!

Waitlisted at Vandy :(, but named Presidential Scholar at Bucknell :). The smaller schools continue to show him the love. Sigh. Don’t know what to expect with the last four.
I heartily commiserate with the other waitlisted Vandy families.

I am curious about people with kids awaiting multiple lottery decisions on 3/30 at 5 PM. What is their strategy? Do they plan to look at their favorite first, or last? Or just in random order? I cannot even imagine how nerve-shattering that will be. Sounds like many have great options already, but that will be a day for chocolate and maybe tequila! I think CC crashed last year on Ivy Day–more frustration for us!

Redshoes’ post made me think about chocolatinis and how some of you might need the combination of vodka and chocolate over the next few days…

Prep Time: 2 minutes
Total Time: 2 minutes
Yield: 1 Drink

Ingredients:
1 1/4 oz Bailey’s Irish cream liqueur
1 oz vodka
1/4 oz Godiva chocolate liqueur
chocolate shavings for garnish

Preparation:
Pour the vodka and liqueurs into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
Shake well.
Strain into a well-chilled cocktail glass.
Garnish with chocolate shavings.

Enjoy!

Love all the news! Congrats to all !

Also love the drink recipe :)

Good news here - S got a “yes” from Davidson! This was such a surprise! No news on financial package yet, but that’s the last of his news - so he got no outright rejections, but WL at a favorite school. Now the problem is not enough financial info to plan visits and not enough time & money to visit both schools that are far away. Four schools are in the final running. So happy for him!

Anyone care to give thoughts comparing Rhodes (Memphis) and Davidson ??

Congrats, Puma. I’ve never been to Davidson, but my son’s teammate and good friend is there and likes it just fine. My son was accepted to Rhodes, and we spent several days in Memphis checking out the city, the school, the opportunities. I really liked what was there, liked the kids, liked the school, liked the city. Though my son liked the school, he was a bit concerned about the frat heavy social scene and that is what tipped the scale for him. He decided that those schools that were not frat heavy were more comfortable socially for him.

Here’s the latest Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride around here. As I was driving up the expressway to pick up the kids after work I got a call from D. Not unusual for her to call checking on my arrival time. But when I answered she was sobbing. Oh no. But in between sobs I could make out that she was saying she got INTO one of her big auditioned programs. Like our own lottery ticket coming in. Word to the wise, try to avoid getting big tear inducing news while driving on the expressway. Huge emotional release right there at 60 miles an hour.

Still waiting on one much hoped for school and one other that probably is falling out of true contention at this point. Got one more auditioned rejection today. Disappointing but it sure stung a lot less than it would have before the acceptance. And the other front runner school, a nice non-auditioned program, sent a letter awarding talent money on top of the already awarded merit money. D really likes being wooed. It makes this school less than half the cost of the big auditioned school (no merit, just those ubiquitous loans).

We have some tough decision making to do. This is the school where D said she would understand if she couldn’t go because we couldn’t afford it. She just wanted to try and know she could get in. I hope she really meant that. I currently work part-time. I have figured that even if I am able to go full-time, it won’t cover the gap we will have between what we can comfortably pay and what we will have to pay at the big school. Going into an artistic field, I don’t want her saddled with loans. Plus she’s like her MFA someday. With one more kid to get through college I don’t want us to be saddled with loans.

The ride is definitely slowing down. I see a couple loop-de-loops ahead, probably a couple curves I can’t even anticipate. So I’m not unbuckling yet.

Well, I’m going to catch up now, starting on page 796 and going until I finish. Its 9:50 now. Anyone want to take bets on how long it takes?

Its great to check in and see all the good news !!! Congrats to all!

OK, that took an hour and ten minutes. That’s what I get for being away for 36 hours.

Now that I have caught up I am cheering so many great things happening for these kids! Everybody is going to find their place to shine. Heartache too. Its great that we have each other to talk to and our kids have us as their soft place to land. And as the acceptances add up they make it a little easier to bear each rejection. My heart hurts for these kids as they go through this. Each application is a risk. But these are lucky kids with great parents and they will be fine.

I am sorry I am not hitting all the wonderful highlights but a few things caught my eye-

Blue- Congrats for being DONE! Can you believe it?

Puma- How exciting about Thailand! I hope you can visit. The folks I know who have travelled there have loved it. And I agree about the food. How great for your son!

arisamp- I hope you and your D enjoyed your C free day today.

OneGirlsMom- I loved your story of your daughter’s whiplashing wild ride. Its incredible how they have these highs and lows right after each other. It sounds like she had a needed emotional release. My D says all the kids are getting teary right now. A combination of the stress of this process and the realization of how close they are to graduation.

oregonianmom- congrats on $$ times 2!

seattle_mom- Two positive choices is a good thing, even if it induces paralysis.

collage, congrats on the “best day of her life”!

Ohiomom- You are right! It really stinks to schedule accepted students days before FA info comes out. As much as I have laughed at the loan FA “awards” D has gotten, I bless the schools that give their FA info with or shortly after admissions.

lynjoy- congrats on the good $$ at Vandy!

itscomplicated- I love what you wrote about your daughter’s growth through this process. I really relate; I see it in my daughter as well. Congrats on Harvey Mudd and Santa Clara!

50isthenew40- We had that moment too. I said I was “harshing her vibe” when I looked at the FA package from D’s big auditioned school. Glad you and she got a giggle from it.

Classof2015- So glad a great acceptance came your way!

MomofZach- I guess this could be like one of those wonderful wild rides where we get to the end and say again, again! I said that after having my 2nd baby… I have two kids. ;-)

Proudmomof2- That drink looks great! I think we are through the worst of our ride here but I may make those as I accompany the rest of you through next week.

Tomorrow is Sunday so no mail. Hope everyone enjoys a great day!

Gee whiz, a day off the computer and there’s four pages to read! I spent the day in NYC with friends. We went to see one of our friends son in a Broadway show - what fun! AND, I hardly thought about college stuff all day! Didn’t even check in on this forum on my phone!

Son however, went on a tour with his Dad to the local State U where he was accepted but had put pretty far down on the list. I had visited with his older brother several years ago and thought it was a really nice college and might be good for him to think about. The report on the ride home (they called me) was that son thought it was better then he expected, but it’s not moving up the list.

It’s so exciting to read about everyone’s news and short stories. Wish we were on facebook though with little pictures attached to the news!

Georgetown reportedly mailed their decison letters on Friday, March 25th. There are several postings indicating that residents in MD, VA and DC got their letters on Saturday. It looks like the rest of us will see Georgetown envelopes on Monday or Tuesday.

Be forewarned, all letters are reported to be in standard size envelopes. Accepted and waitlisted letters are reportedly 3 sheets of paper and rejections are just one page. Evidently, the accepted student and FA information will follow in a separate mailing.

What a week this will be -
2 on Monday (if the mailman cooperates)
1 on Tuesday
3 on Wednesday
and
1 on Friday

Enjoy your Sunday. It will be good day for everyone to catch their breath and re-secure the seatbelt for the rest of the ride.

Returned home today after 22 hours in the car (15 yesterday; 7 today) from Phoenix. Still have some reading to catch up on (back to page 800 or so), but wanted to say, especially after kathiep’s post, that D2 received a phone call from a professor at the Honors College at our local State U, where she has been accepted, at 8:20 p.m. tonight wanting to see if she had any questions. Not sure she asked anything. I suggested that she ought to have a few questions ready to which she told me that if it had been any other school, she would have thought of something. Guess that reflects where this school is on her list. I did think it was a bit odd that the prof called on Saturday night.

Back when D2 was a third grader, I remember the parent/teacher conference where I suggested that D2 was ready for additional work or more challenges. Her teacher told me that she needed to be “content.” At the time, that answer infuriated me, but right now, more than anything, I hope D2 will be content with the news she receives this coming week. H and I tried to find opoportunities for her outside of school to keep her challenged through 8th grade. Hopefully along the way we taught her to be content in all circumstances.

I can not keep up with this thread. Congratulations on all the good news, and boo to the bad.

Snoozn: Congratulations on Goucher. I took a few grad courses at Goucher years ago. It’s a wonderful small school on a beautiful campus.

Class of 2015: I’m so glad to hear about the OXY acceptances after the rough ride you’ve had.

Vamom: Congrats on the Echols Scholar acceptance at UVA!

LOP: Congratulations to your daughter on her big audtion acceptance!! I know that it’s been a tough process for her. This is great validation of her talent and hard work.

Congratulations on the Pomona acceptances. I’ve never visited, but it sounds like a wonderful school.

**Sunday’s Countdown for the “reachy” schools is:

Can’t believe my DD turns 18 today!! Where has the time gone???..realized that in all likelihood this will be the last birthday she celebrates at home…(or at least during the college years)…Have to admit I am a bit teary today…
