Chiming in w/ my best wishes to everyone waiting for decisions this week. I have my fingers crossed so hard for everyone that I think they’ll be permanently contorted!

OK, D and I spent the last weekend of the college waiting game (her final school releases decision via email on Friday) shopping for prom dresses.

I think we hit the jackpot when we just wandered into Ross out of curiosity - a gorgeous $225 Calvin Klein gown for $49.95. Classy looking & fits like a dream. We bought it in two colors, one to be used for formal music performance occasions in college.

BTW, this is a girl who lives in jeans and t-shirts. I think her date will be pleasantly surprised! ;)

momofboston, what an adventure you guys had! Glad you made it safely through.

Moonmaid, congrats on the bargain!

Like many of you we will be hearing from D’s favorite school this week. No way of knowing which way the rollercoaster is going to twist and turn. Glad to know I am not alone on this ride.

Good luck in this coming week!

What a slow day for a change. Only about two total pages of posts today which is the least I can recall over the past several weeks.

Well, tomorrow starts the last week to ride this crazy roller coaster and it will be hitting the biggest hills with big highs and big lows. Just buckle up tight and hang on.

Most people consider March Madness to be all about college basketball. I think those parents with college bound seniors can consider this college application and decision process as our March Madness!

Best of luck to everyone out there waiting for acceptance and FA good news this week.

Birthday weekend for D1 and I. Have to admit I got a bit teary, and even my husband seemed astonished that our oldest has turned 18–where did it go?! Finally got to do a little birthday thing have wanted to do the past couple years–I didn’t have to work on her birthday so while she was in school tied balloons to her car and wrote birthday messages on all her car windows had to tie them pretty tight as it was windy. Thought “either I’ll get an irritated text message or a smiley one” and it was a smiley one.
I think she is realizing that even if she’s not incredibly far far away she will be leaving–her parents have been getting a few more hugs lately (which is nice).
All her acceptances came in a while ago. Now it’s waiting waiting waiting on finaid info. I need to send some more info to one school tomorrow (special circumstances)

But I check in every day to see what is going on with all your kids in here with acceptances and finaid etc–what a wild ride!

Someone started a thread for their soundtrack for accept/reject/waitlist. Here’s what I’ll be singing this week:
I want you to want me
I need you to need me
I’d love you to love me
I’m beggin’ you to beg me

Good luck everyone!

^^^one of the best songs ever!

Best wishes and lots of hugs to everyone awaiting decisions this week. Hold on to the assurance that you have raised amazing young adults who will succeed no matter where they go to college.

I can tell you this as the mother of one child who experienced the agony of defeat and the thrill of victory two weeks ago–and as the mother of a college dropout who is now an incredible husband, father and church worker considering the ministry as a career.

The view is awesome on the other side of the decisions, so hang in there. And remember that we are all here for you in our virtual way.

Although we have been ‘done’ with DD’s college choice since Dec 15th I still check in every day. Yes, addicted. Enjoy the ups and downs of the decisions and letters. Good luck to everyone waiting this week. Congratulations and commiserations where they are due.
Can we start listing where each student go in to once all the letters are in? I love to see the variety of colleges. I think I’ve become a college geek!

I think the soundtrack right now, “Forever Young” (the Rod Stewart one). Mixed in with the final scene from the movie, Parenthood, when the play is going badly and Mary Steenburgen is laughing and Steve Martin is grimacing trying to enjoy the moment.
We are still in holding mode- will find out today if D has mono (we think not as there has been some improvement since Friday).
Holding good thoughts for all of you. Be good to yourselves this week.

3 more days and then it is over…

Congrats to all of your wonderful kids. I have enjoyed reading the stories !!

anothermom – Alas, it isn’t ‘over’ in three days. The agony changes to something different, that’s all. Spreadsheets, re-visits, in depth dithering…this is yet to come!

But congratulations are indeed in order! Just be careful opening those mailboxes.

Moonmaid: Cogratulations on the prom dress success. There is nothing betting than finding a beautiful dress at a great price.

Good luck to everyone waiting for decisions this week. This is just the beginning…

**Monday’s Countdown for the “reachy” schools is:

Stanford (Updated)- [color=red]4 days to go based on the Admissions News posting on the Stanford web site on March 24. Their link is [Admission News : Stanford University](<a href=“Page Not Found : Stanford University”>Page Not Found : Stanford University) We are thinking they might advance it a day or two but no one knows.

Johns Hopkins - 1 day to go. Announcements are to be released tomorrow, Tuesday the 29th. (Based on information provided to me by another poster - thank you.)
Duke - 2 days to go. Decisions will be available online at 6 PM on Wednesday, March 30th per an email message to applicants.

The big “H” and other ivies - 2 days to go based on the Wednesday, 5PM March 30th announcement date and time. The “lottery drawing” is only 2 days away!

March 31st schools - 3 days to go. For all the schools that haven’t announced earlier dates!

Buckle up and hang on. This week will be a real ride with the rest of the decisions due this week. Then we can begin the difficult process of evaluating FA packages and scheduling admitted student days visits. April will be a busy month! If your kids have already decided on their final choice you should be very happy!**

Thanks. I think Amherst is also Thursday or Friday. Anyone else’s kids skipping school Wednesday? We are waiting for 8 schools announcing then, including all the top choices. Super yikes.

Mine will be in school-better than him hanging around here pondering his future. :)

I just spent some time putting new pictures on our group Shutterfly account-everybody drop everything to go check them out!

NHS dinner was very nice last night. His speech went without incident and we saw lots of parents I haven’t seen in a long time.

Someone told me my son will really enjoy Columbia next year. I said that would be interesting since he didn’t apply there. :)

I am spending my free time today working on my fantasy baseball draft-I need to regain the crown I lost last year.

I want to tell you all that I have kept my vow and only discussed college issues when he has brought them up-I am very proud of myself but don’t know how much longer I can stay strong-

Good Luck with the lottery this week!

The past two weeks have been quite emotional at our home. For a year and a half, we had only one college picture in our mind…of our son at Olin. Unfortunately the big envelope never arrived. You are talking tough odds when there are only 84 spots available in the freshman class, 17 already filled from the prior year’s W/L, 9 siblings getting offers and a goal to make half the class women.

Fortunately acceptances to Rice with lots of financial aid, Harvey Mudd (fin aid unknown at this time) joined the prior acceptances to UF, GA Tech and WPI with the Presidential Scholarship. In addition, son had interviews or is going to interviews for quite a few scholarships. Hopefully some will pay off.

So once we find out how much Harvey Mudd would cost us next year, my son can finally have an answer to the many times asked question - Where are you going to college next year?

Like many of you, I am ready for the next phase of this process. Huge congratulations to all of you with your fabulous news of the past two weeks. Big hugs to those of you stinging from your disappointments. I have read every word each of you has written, laughing at some, crying with you at others. I will hold my breathe along with those of you who were courageous enough to throw your hat in the ring for the schools who announce this week.

It’s probably better than having those super reach decisions spread over time. Assuming your kid gets a mixture of rejections/WLs/acceptance, he/she will go thru the ups and downs a lot quicker and in the end will have nice choices to consider.

We are waiting for 5 announcements. For three of those S has likely letters, so we are expecting good news there. So, that leaves just 2. And though it doesn’t really matter if he gets accepted or not to these 2, since he already has great choices, it will still sting if he gets rejected from both. I think S will feel ok if he gets WL’d. A good thing is that we are leaving on Thursday for a college visit, so that should lift his spirits up in case March 30th 2011 will be forever known in our house as Black Wednesday.

Good luck to everyone waiting! I can’t believe the wait is almost over.

Hi - back from our choir trip weekend. So much news! I’m feeling for everyone, ups and downs.

D had a great trip, and was SO wise to black out college news. It was wonderful seeing her so happy and unoppressed.

Last night she opened the 2 e-mails that came in while she was away. Both no. One she was fine with, had decided the school wasn’t right for her (and I agree). The other was a school that had been 1st choice for 2 years, so that was rough. The odds were low, and she wasn’t confident, but we all had a little hope for a fairy tale ending. Ah, well.

The 3rd school that was supposed to e-mail her didn’t, which was just as well. Thanks to CC she can still access their portal today and find out. It’s likely a no, but maybe with luck a waitlist. 2 more are coming - a definite no (yeses went out a couple of weeks ago) and a good likely. And that will be it.

She says she doesn’t care about any of these last schools. She also says she plans to drop 2 or 3 of her prior acceptances. So she’ll be down to a couple of excellent choices and a waitlist within the next week. No visits, no time to travel that I can see. But I think she has enough information, and I have a feeling I know how she’ll go. But it’s up to her.

Wow, we got through … the month that will be etched forever into our memories.

I’m looking forward to seeing more of the happy girl I spent the weekend with. It was such a nice feeling. She’s on break this week, has some work to do, has some fun planned. The last 2 months of school will be cake compared to the 2 months we just went through.
