Parents of the HS Class of 2011 - Original

Sorry the news wasn’t good for my big list buddy Emmybet and FLMathmon. But both your kids have great schools to choose from so in the end it’s all good.

I called the office at boychild’s school and left a message for him to call home. Hoping he’ll give me the OK to open the envelope.

Novelisto: loved the “in depth dithering” a few pages ago. Thanks for the laugh.

emilybee: Bates was a favorite while visiting–great school. Congrats.

dignified1: ARGH! Torture!

cpt–I like the phrase you used “this is as good as it gets, and I know it” when it comes to finances.
We’ve been done with acceptances for a while but now the wait on finaid which is so difficult, esp. since still finishing sending special circumstance info. D1 kept quiet about any favorites for a loong time (most acceptances came in early) as she knows the $ is big issue but some words are popping out here and there from her now, and I am getting that parental yearning, praying, hoping and wishing that she’ll get to go to one of her favorites (from what I can tell).

EmmyBet–big, BIG hugs to you and your D

dignified–perhaps easier on your child to do it all at once? not sure for you!

@dignified – Let your child decide. I think mine would text me 20 times for four letters.

OMG! Not only did boychild get accepted but he got a $41K/yr Bates Scholarship. Way more than we ever imagined he would be offered in FA.

emilybee, your son hit the jackpot! Way to go! Glad he let you open the big envelope. :)

E-bee - WOW! What a way to kickoff a Monday morning. Lots of smiles in your house - congrats.

S just called from home and today’s mail brought a waitlist from Vanderbilt :(
and an acceptance from Georgetown. He seemed happy as his response was “I haven’t been rejected yet.”

The FA from Georgetown is marginal and included work study and the nasty “L” word. 5 more to go this week and then the fun begins with the evaluation of net costs and visit coordination.

emilybee - Congrats on Bates! Sounds like a home run.

@emilybee: awesome!!!

Congratulations, emilybee! Awesome news. And congrats, AHSDad, on the Gtown acceptance. Sorry about VB.

Wow, Wow, WOW emilybee! Awesome!

Sorry about the mixed bag of results AvonHSDad but I hope your son feels good about Georgetown.

I can tell its going to get very busy here the next few days! Its tempting to stay glued to this thread and watch the results come in in real time but I really need to go be productive.

Hello everyone!

FlMathMom ~ So sorry about Olin… Great about Rice with lots of $$$, congrats! Hope you get good FA from HM as well!

EmmyBet ~ Sorry about your D’s first choice not coming through and the other disappointment… Glad you had a nice weekend with the choir trip!

dignified1 ~ What a bummer that you have to leave on Wednesday morning!

emilybee ~ WOW!!! Congrats!

AvonHSDad ~ Sorry about the Vanderbilt WL, but congratulations on Georgetown!

Emilybee-wow!!! Congrats!!!

Thanks everyone. We are beyond thrilled.

Avon - your son has a list of fabulous schools to choose from.

The morning of the Ems!

Big hugs to EmmyBet and daughter - what a ride you’ve been having, and sorry for the latest dip. But you’ve got wonderful choices.

And congrats to Emilybee and boychild - Bates is a terrific school!

AvonHSDad, glad the news from the mailbox was at least mixed - Georgetown is great!

We’re figuring on several pieces of news in the mailbox today, but (darn D’s rehearsal schedule!) it will probably wait until pretty late before we know …

emilybee-congrats on bates. fabulous news for a fabulous school. hope it’s the beginning of a fabulous week!

AVONHS dad…congrats on Georgetown. Incredible school. I keep looking out my window for the mail.Looks like DC makes it to Ohio faster than to NYC!

Congrats to emilybee on Bates and $$, Avon on Gtown (sorry about V), Flmathmom on Rice; hugs to emmybet, Flmathmom on Olin.
Dignified - I fear we will all be at the mercy of the servers. My D will be alone in her room and I will be anxiously awaiting for her to tell me the assorted news (which will no doubt be written all over her face).
I need to take S to church right after she gets her news so I will either be praying great thanksgivings of joy or supplications for the right words to comfort, her self esteem, for wisdom regarding which of the lesser loved schools to attend, but also thanksgivings for her efforts and risk taking. This week is going to be a wringer!

Congratulations to everyone with more great news! Sorry to hear about more WLs, and I hope that those that are really important to our kids turn into admits in the next few weeks. And sorry to those who are not getting into the schools they really want. Thanks for the great perspective, OWM. I’m looking forward to being on your side of the valley soon.

We have five decisions coming this week, and I think we’ll be ecstatic if even one of them is an acceptance. I also think that if it is, that will probably be the school for D - she loves all of them more than any of her current schools. But she’s also coming around to three of her current acceptances, and is looking forward to visiting each of them this month.

But while we wait of course, there is much to do in preparation for prom, graduation, etc. and I’m glad we’ll have those distractions between now and Wednesday.

I need to get some perspective from mom’s of daughters out there. Moonmaid, I’m so impressed and excited for you that you found such a great bargain! But if we don’t have that kind of luck, what should I realistically expect/be willing to pay for a prom dress? I’m experiencing sticker shock right now, but I haven’t been paying attention to these things since I was in HS, which was a very long time ago. D1 has found her dream dress online, and lets just say that it costs as much as my wedding dress (for which I got a great deal, but still…). I realize this is a pretty personal question, so if you’d like to share your perspective but want to do it through PM that would be fine. I just don’t want to be a scrooge about it, but I also don’t want to go overboard. Thoughts?

Congratulations on the big fat envelopes! Hugs to those with disappointing news -

Today we got good news/bad news…I think…

The good news - D got a sizable scholarship ($35K). The bad news - but was not accepted into her major :-~ And it is not a mistake!

So, what is up with that?
