Well lots of errands here, prom arrangements, things to the dry cleaners etc.

Just ordered the grad announcements and hope to get corrected proof. The web site was slogging down, had to do it via phone…Almost perfect, with one “typo”…since B,C,D,E,G,P,V,etc all sound the same…via long distance and with background noise…I amazed it went as well as it did.

Boy, there are a lot of Bones fans on this thread. I had never watched a single episode before we got Netflix. Must be on against something else that we watch normally. Even though we can record two shows at once with the DVR, sometimes we miss something. It always seems like it’s feast or famine - either nothing on TV tonight or too many at once.

Count my DD2 as another kid who has known since childhood that she wanted to be an elementary school teacher. She has an awesome class this year - Teacher Academy - that meets once a week for 3 periods and then the kids shadow a teacher the other days. She spent the first half of the year in a 1st grade class and is now in a kindergarden class. She is still torn about which of these grades she would prefer to teach but she has definitely seen enough to know that this is what she is meant to do. She writes lesson plans, presents lessons, works with kids individually… she’s even had playground and bus duty!

cgpm - right state, wrong U… I was at UT Austin in the late 70s. Have been in the Midwest for 15 years but my entire family is still in that area. Boy, do I miss it during the winter!

No summer vacation for us this year; I’ve already used up a few days on college visits and will have to do the same around graduation. Add in a 2-day student/parent orientation, time to get DD1 moved into her college apartment and DD2 into the dorms and I barely have any left for the holidays.

I am so tired of all the senior stuff plus everything else I have to do. Back when we thought we were going to know in February where we were moving, I signed D up for a tournament tomorrow and Saturday. I so don’t want to be there. I;ll work communications again so I will have a lot of down time but I really need a prolonged time at home. That just hasn’t been happening.

This D is so overworked that I think I will be overjoyed in a few weeks when hopefully both debate and speech are done (I know I am awful but I really, really don’t want her continuing on to nationals since that is in later June and I don’t know if we will even be on this continent then), her last edition of her school paper is out, her last charity event already happened last weekend, and then no more Wednesday nights, no more Thursday afternoons, and no more tournaments. I also think she won’t really mind having gotten to regionals but not advancing- I hope she realizes she needs to rest a bit. Her other classes still take up a lot of time, particularly her 20th century lit where she is reading mostly depressing books every other week and writing papers on the opposite weeks.

On another note- can someone pm me how to do shutterfly and then I can add some photos?

Sent D off on her first solo cross-country flight this am. Even though she’s 17 and I’m not ;), I really wish I could have gone with her! She’s excited about the pre-frosh weekend though and meeting all of the other kids. What an exciting time for our kids! :)

MilMom - PM 2education with your e-mail address for shutterfly.

You really deserve to let off steam. I can’t imagine this year for you. Here’s hoping you have some peace soon.

D seems to be hot on the waitlist bandwagon again. Apparently she thought she already had gone on it, which she hadn’t because it requires a couple of written statements from her. I’d reminded her of this verbally and in an e-mail, but I’ll give the benefit of the doubt, just from overload, and also because she got 2 waitlist offers on the same day, the other of which WAS just a quick postcard to mail.

So we’ll see if she now cranks the statements out. Honestly this school would trump all of her other choices, for very good reasons. She just has to come up with the school she would be most happy with, WL school notwithstanding. I think she’s down to 2 at this point. But she’s not rushing anything … which is good, I guess …

Good news for today is that she seems close to completing her independent PE hours. I was sweating (ha) this one, because I could just imagine her literally unable to complete them and getting a blank diploma - or being cut out of graduation entirely! So this is a big load off of my over-active mind.

Proudmom – I work in one of the state office buildings across the street from UT. I could throw a rock and hit Jester Dorm. My best friend in HS went to UT; she lived in Blanton. Also late 70’s.

Thanks for everyone’s nice comments on DS’ soccer pics on the shutterfly page. Yes, he is playing in college . . . that was our agonizing decision (which school) that was made this past Monday. The college team has a spring game on Saturday that we plan to go watch and then DS will get to have lunch with the team and bond with his future teammates while me and DH hit the bookstore for t-shirts and window stickers. Little DS will be hanging out at his cousin’s house this time.

Yesterday’s mail brought the first year’s tuition bill.   Well, not really the bill, the letter that says that estimated billable fees are  and here are some handy-dandy ways to finance it, if you’re still trying to figure that out. Who on earth would be considering a variable tied-to-LIBOR line of credit to finance something this ?

D1, the spouse and I all knew what the number would be. We can afford this. It’s still stunning to realize that you’re going to actually be paying it.

Drumroll…
I am so happy I could cry! D just told me that she has decided on JUNIATA!!! Yay!!!
We first visited Juniata in fall of her Junior year. This was after having visited 4 or 5 schools, some of which she thought were okay, some didn’t like. From the moment she set foot at Juniata she felt at home. We have visited 3 times, and each time she felt completely comfortable! About a year later we visited another school that she also really really liked (after a long tour of schools she felt so-so about or rejected out of hand…spending tons of time and money…). It had boiled down to this other school and Juniata. She was paralyzed by making the choice…but finally went with her heart…which lead her to Juniata!
I am so happy and excited for her. Honestly, I am crying right now…

Thanks to all of you for all the support and advice I have gotten here!

Happy 21st birthday to Proudmom’s daughter and Madbean’s son… My D1 turned 21 in January. It looks like there are a few of us who will have college seniors and freshmen next year.

Tomorrow, my husband and I are heading to Richmond to see my older daughter and her team compete in collegiate Club Gymnastics National Championships. It will bring back a lot of memories of hours spent at gymnastics meets. Early Saturday morning, my husband and daughter are flying to Boston for an accepted students program.

I too just can’t believe the numbers that are being thrown around. We planned and saved for it, but it still feels like just last year when we would not spend the extra money for a second bottle of hand lotion to put by the kitchen sink or a box of tissues in each bathroom as it “wasteful”. Logicially I know we’ve come a bit of a way since then, but sometimes it does not feel like it.

I, too, will have a college senior and a freshman next year. Good grief, where does the time go? I am not old enough for this! S skipped a grade, so he is just 20. He’ll be 21 when he graduates.

Rodney, is your older D at Syracuse? I think I remember chatting with you 3 years ago when we went through this the first time. ;)

Holliesue - Congratulations on reaching the shore!
Momjr - My 13 yo finally “retired” from gymnastics last spring after making 8 regionals. I am soooooo not envious of sitting at a gym meet! I couldn’t take the fear factor and the parents (I’m sure by college, the parents may have matured a bit? maybe not if they are from Jersey!) Best of luck to your daughter - those are true warriors who continue in the sport through college.
I had a phone interview today and may have actually landed an in-person interview. Job is 2/3 of what I used to make but it would be a foot in the door. And it could…drumroll pls…pay for college - GASP.

Well, I WOULD have been in the group with the college freshman and college senior in the fall, but then S1 took that little detour in life and became a husband and father.

S2 turns 18 next Friday; S1 turns 21 in May. He will miss his “little” brother’s 18th birthday because he is going to Nicaragua Sunday to shoot a video about the orphanage that his church/employer sponsors. So, he does use the 33 college credit hours that he received toward a degree in media production. Maybe one day he will finish that degree or go to seminary or both.

“Hey - we are having a heatwave today - finally. 55 degrees and sunny! Time to break out the shorts.”

Finally! I was able to get out in my garden beds and so some clean up. I was picked to be on my towns garden tour in the beginning of June and I have got to get working.

Mazel Tov, HollieSue!!! Thrilled for you and your DD.
