Those pushy emails really are ridiculous, and are definitely turning my D off. They seem to be of a completely different marketing campaign than their snail mailings, too. One school might send a really nice & lovely mailing in the mail, then they turn around and hound my D via email. And the phone calls! I usually don’t bother answering if the caller ID won’t identify the caller, but occasionally I do and I’m surprised at how often it’s a college calling!

Phone calls? I don’t think LuckyBoy put a phone number down for anything. I sure hope he didn’t!

Sorry about the sick kiddo—that really rots. And to have to take the test again because some yahoo thought s/he was above the rules?!

Physics C is just over for S  Oh well. One more to go, Eng Lang on Wednesday. And only two finals this year: required junior theology class (Social Justice) and Latin 3.

In other news, S’s Austrian counterpart is on his way with the rest of the exchange group. We have to go to the airport this afternoon (5pm arrival=traffic  ) to pick him up. A busy yet fun-filled two weeks ahead for us :)

D reports AP Physics B exam was “moderately not horrible” whatever that means!

D just woke up after having slept most of the afternoon. Feeling much better - still has a headache, but tolerable. GC called - she had finished the multiple choice part of the test and had started on the FRQs - so apparently, they won’t have her do the multiple choice again. She has to only do part 2 - probably will be scheduled for next week. At this point, it looks like she will take the next one tomorrow.

She slept through practice and is annoyed about that more than the test According to the school rules, if you miss practice, you can’t play in the next game!!

^^ our school policy is -if you miss that day of school–it is forbotten to be at any after school events…
so pratice or game would be included–
don’t know if thats related to the nexrt day or two…
but many coaches have a missed pratice–no play rule…

Tom is the AP chem–and then AP Eng Wed–its a long week…

as for pushy emails–
Delete–it feels great!

We set up a separate e-mail account just for this college stuff. I check it every couple of days and then tell son if I think he will be interested. It’s really nice to have it off to the side. My son is done with his AP tests, but has a senior project to finish up and present. This seems to be a bit of a lull for our Juniors. Only seniors take AP English here. Son needs the lull - Robotics club will be meeting four days this week and a quick tournament on Saturday. We still have quite a bit more of school to get through before finals in June.

Do the AP classes at your childs’ school do t-shirts? Some of ours do and they’re always so clever. Son still loves his “retrovirus” “(since 1977)” t-shirt from AP Bio. D brought one home for English - the teacher is fond of argyle sweater vests so the front of the t-shirt is an argyle pattern.

T-shirt idea is very cool, I love it. At S’s school they would not be allowed to wear the t’s in school, but they would still be neat to wear outside of class.

Does any one know how yeterday’s Phy B AP went. My D thought it was hard

Sksmom, go over to the SAT/ACT forum and look for the AP Test Prep subforum. There will be discussion threads for each of the AP tests. It’s one way to get a read on how other students did. Use your own discretion at sharing the info with your D.

Thanks SlitheyTove

kathiep , just wondering if your Robotics tournament is in NJ this weekend? My son’s school is hosting a Robotics event this weekend.

Yesterday I reluctantly took UNC Asheville off my D’s list. I’d love the school but I don’t think an LAC would be the best choice for her.

Will the AP send the test reports all at the same time? After 2 weeks of testing–its ot that they are so far spread out. kwim?
Also–since these were done at school–
How do the scores arrive?
Snail mail? We didn’t set up the tests–the school did that…giving hundreds of tests over the two weeks…

They come by snail mail, all at the same time. You can pay an additional amount ($8?) to phone in a week or two early and get all of the scores by ear.

Hey, what parents took what APs back in the day? I did US History, English (there was only one English AP at the time), Chem and BC Calc. If I had to take them right now, I would probably fail all but Calculus, and even that’s doubtful since I have no idea how to use a graphing calculator. We had no study guides, no old tests to look at, it was all old school review.

I had never even heard of AP exams until about four years before my oldest was in HS.

My high school didn’t have AP exams when I was there. They were added a few years after I graduated.

Physics C Mech was reported to be pretty hard. MC were ok but the free response was “ouch.” He is optimistic for a solid 3 or a low 4. 4 would be very nice because most schools he is looking at accept 4s in physics :)

Last AP tomorrow, Eng Language. He is so done with junior year. I am so done with the school year. Bittersweet for me as youngest (10yo) will be leaving the school we’ve been with since LuckyBoy’s kindergarten year. As I told friends today at the regular lunch volunteering gig, I will miss my friends but not the school’s policies.

The only AP I took in the dark ages was English. I should have taken history too! Icould barely pass regents level math and science! My d does not get her skill at those subjects from me!

I got the same report for Physics C Mech, and then M & E was the opposite – MC were hard, but FRQs was OK. Overall, the Physics C tests were harder than S expected, but he is still hoping he did well. This morning is APES, which could prove to be a challenge since the course has been over since January, but I don’t think he cares because after it is over he is DONE! School should be a breeze after this, because the only class of substance left is his American Lit class. I am hoping his classes do some prepping for the Sat IIs, cause he’s taking Math II and US History in June.

kathiep & randrmom - Are your kids in US FIRST robotics (FRC or FTC) ? I thought everything was over for the 2010 season? Our students have been in low gear since World Championships in Atlanta in April. They have been working on tests, exams etc. They will start meeting 2x/week to design the drivetrain for FRC & will hold meetings this summer for students that want to learn and tinker… but no competitions.
