Congratulations jkiwmom’s daughter and jkiwmom!

Great story jkiwmom - thanks for sharing!

Jkiwmom…what a sweet image you planted in my head just now. May there be many more such moments for all my CC friends in the weeks and months ahead!

PS: I first learned verklempt’s meaning (along with other yiddish sayings) watching Mike Myers play his Jewish mom-in-law on Saturday Night Live.

So glad to report that my prediction on waiting a while for an acceptance was wrong. Call came from d’s first choice, Muhlenberg this afternoon! This was her ED school so she is one and done! Very excited and proud. Thanks to all of you for the advice and support!
(And to parents in the future scrolling through these posts - YES - your kid CAN get into a great school!!!)

Woo Hoo Joisymom!

^^YEA, congratulations, Joisymom!!! So happy for you both!

Thanks everyone for the shared excitement! D proudly wore her Warren Wilson t-shirt to school today (I had it tucked away in my closet to give her). :). Deposit is paid. NC, here she comes!

JOISYMOM—AWESOME!!! Congratulations to your daughter!

This is such a happy thread. I read somewhere on CC that B students are easier than A students, because we aren’t all dreaming about HYP, and our wonderful kids aren’t obsessed. I think the research and thought we’ve put into the process and attention to “fit” is paying off!

mamaduck, I think that is exactly right about the B student’s experience.

Congrats to you and your D Joisymom.

I agree mamaduck. I often tell people we’re carving out a spot in the middle. We’ve just submitted our EA’s but I’m hoping for one hit.

Congrats to everyone getting good news and especially to those who already have a winner! I woke up this morning feeling like we’re in the doldrums. All the hustle and bustle getting those EA apps out the door and yes–two acceptances so far but it’s been a while and I am hungry for more news. Still steadfastly refusing to look up any notification dates but I believe we’ll hear from a number of schools in the 12/1-12/15 time frame. Was really not expecting anything this week, but still. . . (In the meantime I’m just about finished with Christmas shopping–had to do something with all of this nervous energy!!)

I just wanted to jump in on this thread as I feel it’s one of the few places on CC where things are kept in perspective. After investigating schools for my own wonderful B student as well as for her B student cousin (in addition to my A student and an A student cousin),here are some excellent schools, in my opinion, for great kids:

Hartwick in upstate New York: So much to recommend it, such a lovely and welcoming place that it is one of the first choices of my A student niece
Endicott in MA, near the ocean, near Boston
Saint Anselm in NH, a gorgeous campus and also a very welcoming, inclusive place (don’t let the religious name put you off…they are very open there)
Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (My bright B student nephew got great aid from them and is having a terrific time. Check out their political lectures with very big name speakers.)
University of Scranton, PA: Excellent facilities!
Juaniata in PA: A friends’ son is there and loves it, plus his travel and off-campus experiences sound incredible
Union College in NY: A beautiful campus and excellent faculty. Strikes me as a fun place.

I would say that these schools, which seem to welcome B students, are as nice in many ways as the elite schools I visited for my son (who is now a sophmore at Bowdoin.)

A family friend’s D is at Juniata…she is on-campus very rarely it seems…she’s a marine science major I think and is on a boat in Florida now, did something last semester in Cape Cod. It seems like a great launching pad for beyond campus adventures.

Congrat’s Joisymom on the Muhlenberg acceptance. WHEW!! That is SOO cool to be done already! My S who is a Junior has Muhlenberg at the top of his list… he will be a theater major. We have not visited yet but plan on going in MArch. We live in CA, so it’s quite trip. Your D must have fell in love with the school to apply ED… what was her favorite thing about the school?

Hi Kinderny,
It’s Sage. Do you know it? The coach is REALLY assertive! Thanks.

OMG, this board is SO exciting! Congratulations Joisymom and Jkiwmom on your kids’ acceptances. My son also has his second acceptance, Ursinus, under his belt and that is very, very reassuring. We are thrilled, although we’re still waiting to hear from his top two choices…
Enjoy your weekends!

Congratulations to everyone! Lots of news to catch up on

DS got an acceptance today from Whittier College with a really nice merit scholarship. He is still waiting on 3 more schools but it is really nice to have some good options. I feel like he would be happy and do well at several of the schools he has received acceptances from-- so I should just relax, right?

I hope I can do that-- maybe a glass of wine-- it is Friday night, right?

DS applied ED to his top choice - Colorado College - and I’ve been trying to prepare him for a deferral or even denial. He’s got the ACT score (32) but his unweighted GPA is 3.2 and his ECs are quirky. He wants a solid geology (but more environmental science-y and not so much petroleum or geophysics) program at a small western school, and after visiting CC he’s fallen hard. The dining room table has displays of materials from other LACs (Puget Sound and Whitman both have geology programs, but Whitman’s a reach) plus Colorado State, Fort Lewis and Oregon State, but he’s just got his heart set on CC. Unfortunately, he’s trying to avoid what he calls deep-snow country so great schools like Wooster, Earlham and Oberlin are off the list at least for now.

Fingers crossed from now until the 12/15 notification arrives.

I used to live in Whittier - a very nice school!
