Parents of the HS Class of 2013 - 3.0 to 3.3 GPA

Congrats HL! That’s so great that it worked out! I love seeing all the positive results on here–

Congrats to HL and jkiwmom and their daughters!!

Hurray HL- I liked Earlham a lot and tried to get my D to apply. So happy for you and your D. I love hearing the success stories on this thread. I stick around because parents from earlier classes really helped during my D’s app season.

Congrats, Heavy-Lidded and your darling daughter! I recall she has lots of great choices now! Will it be Earlham? Enjoy the celebrating!

As I posted elsewhere, Ursinus came through with good merit $ for DS. DD is waiting for decisions from 3 schools in the Philadelphia area, so there’s the possibility they will end up near each other.

When we started this process, we thought maybe DS would have to go to a community college. Instead, he has 5 great acceptances so far, with 4 scholarship offers. thank you all for the advice and support on this thread.

Yay HeavyLidded!!! I’ve heard such great things about Earlham. Congrats to your D and to you :)

Great news on the Ursinus $$$ pkdof13

Congrats HL! We are happy for you and your D!

HL, so true. DS still waiting on decisions, but when those are all done I will post his stats and results as well, to guide others.

Congratulations HL! My D is in at Earlham too, such a wonderful school! It is the first college she has heard from, so don’t know what she will decide. But she really loved Earlham when she visited it.

Stopping in to say congrats on Earlham! I LOVE that school. It was one of my top choices for my D, and the place where I thought she would get the most personalized attention and thrive. I posted a summary of our visit on the 2013 thread…end of July/early August. I think that the profs there are phenomenal, and that all the staff truly want to see students succeed and be challenged. They’re building some great new facilities, and the new president seems to be doing good things for the school as well. So, I think I’m a little envious! Lol!

Congrats HL and pkdof13.

congrats on everyone’s acceptances!

On a side note, I heard back from DD’s GC – they do not use Naviance. It was worth a shot. Thanks again.

HL… I just love your story and I remember my DS last year doing the same dance around the house telling me… " I told you so, I told you so" after he got so many fantastic options all with great merit aid. I just wanted to chime in here and say CONGRAT’s to you and your DD from the 2012 board! I have a good friend from that board who has a DD at Earlham this year and she could not be happier there… it is everything she hoped for and more… she also got great FA, and she turned down Smith and others to attend Earlham. I am pretty sure you will have a happy ending… and isn’t that just the best!!

Congrats on Earlham! Makes all the stress and frustration of the last year worth it when we see our kiddos happy.

Congrats Heavylidded - what a great story. I feel the same way you do - proud, relieved, excited and eager to ease the worries of those anxious parents who are just beginning the process.

Adding my Congratulations to Heavylidded & D!

We had a good news/bad news day at our house. S got his first out-right rejection :frowning: , but the mailman brought a letter from Marquette with merit $$ . We knew this school was (as we say here) a HMFR. Oh well, he has some fine choices & still awaiting 2 decisions.

It really is a pleasure to be reading about all the acceptances here!! Thank you so much for sharing. I have not contributed much but I lurk around a ton- so thank you and CONGRATS!!
My DD has recevied 2 acceptances so far… Drew U and Hartwick- Not first choices for sure, but both came in with decent merit awards so they’re both good choices-and at least in the part of the country that she was hoping to attend school. Especially Drew with the UN semester in NYC…
She received a defferral from her first choice school which she applied EA- University of San Francisco… She has been a little bummed about that one, but who knows- she could get in still.
She does have a few more we’re waiting on-- the in-state publics that I made her apply (just in case) and a few of the HMFR (LOVE THAT TERM) schools, so things should be interesting come March.
Its been a fun and stressful time to say the least and I am glad this part is almost over!!

DS got a big, big scholarship offer. 90% of tuition, room/board, and books for a private school. Unfortunately, it’s not his first choice. It is most likely the best place for him but it doesn’t offer the football/party scene that is prevalent in the south. His first choice, after merit aid, will be almost four times the cost of this one. And I’m afraid he will have a little too much fun.

He doesn’t seem very excited, although its hard to tell with him. He is a pretty mellow kid. He says he will take the $ and go but I’m not sure he really wants to. It’s a 1000 miles away from home so maybe he is just nervous?? Maybe it’s hitting him that all this planning and all the applications is more than just an exercise in futility. That he actually is going to go away to college. Boys are so hard when it comes to deciphering their feelings!

I don’t want him to go to a school that isn’t the right fit but I don’t know how to pay for his first choice. And I’m not sure that his first choice is right either. Ugh. I thought kids were supposed to get easier a they got older. As you can tell, this is #1, affectionately referred to as my “practice child.”

Congrats Leacoop! Your S sounds a lot like mine-- I remember your post that your S could barely tear himself away from Xbox to open something-- mine is exactly the same except he is playing guitar not Xbox!

I have decided not to ask DS what he is thinking about options for at least 2 weeks-- we will see if I make it. Isn’t it too bad that the school they like best, the school you think is best for them and the one they get the biggest merit aid offer for aren’t the same? Then I guess we would have nothing to discuss on here–

Does the school with the big scholarship have an accepted student day? Maybe if he went they would do a great job and he will love it

All of these acceptances with great scholarship offers are so encouraging! Congrats to all of you!

My D applied to only one private, and received some merit. Probably not enough so we can afford, but it is nice to get some merit

Just so wonderful that schools want to provide a way for students with these GPA to go to a nice college
