Parents of the HS Class of 2014

I’ve been tempted to keep a log on who is who … but then decided that may be kind of stalker-ish! haha

I need opinions! DS has now taken ACT three times. Composite score has been very good all three times (99th percentile). The last time was taken only so he could take it with writing. He has not taken SAT at all, so he needs the writing score for some of the schools he will be applying to. I used the glitch to get the score (Yay! It’s finally available for writing!) and it was a 6. YUCK! So … does he take it again? Do schools carry that much weight on the writing? Will they look more on the fact that he will have taken it 4 times if he chooses to take it again to bring the writing score up? Will it matter with the high composite scores? What would you have your kid do? I’m leaving it up to him, but like to give him pros & cons to base his choices on.

Yes, the glitch is working! DD was trying to get her math up; it went down. :frowning: But science and her essay went up.

Looks like we will be using her SAT scores. Just told her she is done testing…with the exception of the three subject tests in June. Time to get cracking!

beadymom, I have no clue as to whether or not there is a great deal of emphasis on the writing portion, given that his composite scores are so high. Forgive me for not remembering, is he applying to engineering schools? My guess is that if he’s a STEM guy, it’s probably forgiven.

He is a STEM guy … and not sure if he’ll want the super reach schools, but don’t want to eliminate the possibility if he wants to give it a shot.

Beadymom: I think he is in pretty good shape with his 99th percentile ACT score. He should take the time to write some wonderful essays… Congratulations.

@beadymom
I think your son will be OK since he’ll major in STEM. The good thing about the ACT is that the composite doesn’t factor the writing score. SAT on the other hand factors your essay score into your Writing.

My D has the same dilemma. Her SAT W and M scores are near perfect. Her Writing not so much. It’s good but not great compare to her W and M scores. So she’ll take the ACT in June.

Darn it - the glitch still won’t work for me :(

eyemamom–re: the Glitch, are you entering in your kid’s new reg ID number. There is a different number for the April test and any previous test he may have taken.

Yes, it’s coming up that it can’t be processed at this time.

The glitch worked for me - yeah! S3 did ok, although for a few guaranteed scholarships, he is 2 points too low. He will take the test in June, and again in September, to see if he can go higher…hopefully he won’t end up lower.

Beadymom, S1 and S2 had excellent ACT composite scores, but their writing scores were 7. They are STEM students and they were both offered excellent scholarships and got in the schools they applied to (well except MIT but many many boys do not get accepted there!) Since you are happy with his composite score, I wouldn’t have him take the test over again especially as the IVY league schools need the SAT subject tests so if he wants to apply there he might want to take these and the SAT too.

I don’t think the glitch is working for me either – S is still in “tested” mode – what does he have to be to see his scores early? Registered?

Tested is what you want. How I have done it is to get the new test number, then go to an old test “view scores”. Right click on “download pdf” and copy, then paste that address in the address bar. Replace the 8 digit number and make sure javascript: is in the beginning of the address.

Good luck! Feel free to PM me if you need more detailed instructions.

Son '14 got his school record in the 800-meter run at a big invitational. He was very excited when he called to tell me. Today, he’s spending the day working as a youth soccer referee for five games before coming home to work on a research paper. Where do they get all that energy?

Congrats momreads to your DS! How exciting! And I have no idea where they find their energy - I know my DD’s schedule would exhaust me!

Congrats DS of Momreads!

Our DS’14 just went to his school prom! OMG, where did JR Year go?

Hi All
K2 had prom last week…Had a great time. The kids looks lovely–all of them.
Big event for an EC this week.
Rolling into the last month of class, studying for SAT/ACT and exams.

OMG where has the time gone!!! Expect to have a busy summer and pray to have a mice busy fall with apps IF the Jr yr transcript and scores suffice. Otherwise–it will roll into early 2014 which I hope to not be doing…

beadymom – thanks for the tips on getting the scores – I’ll try it.

fogfog and glido – wow your Prom is early! S has his May 17. Glad it went well; fingers crossed for the same for him.

Still can’t access Spygirl’s scores. Is it because I have a mac? Tempted to use her brother’s pc, but that means going into his room…

Oh, well, a couple more hours and you can get the scores without using the glitch. ;)

Momreads - congrats to your DS for setting the school record! Is he hoping to play sports in college? I’d say he’d be a good recruit!

Who all is doing the SAT this coming weekend? DS is going to do SAT II’s - Math II, Biology & US History (I think, may change that one to English). Good luck! Then we get to wait for another set of scores!! :)

DS is taking 2 SAT Subject Matter test this Saturday: Math2 and US History. Best of luck to all this exam season. Between SAT2s, APs and all the other exams, it is exhausting just looking at them all on the calendar.

Congrats to Momreads DS.

DD is taking the Chemistry and Math I SAT II’s this coming weekemd.

We are all waiting for tomorrow’s ACT scores.
