I’m glad you got to see her! @dyiu13 Does math seem to be going better?
D had a freshman welcome event for the young women only yesterday. Various women alumni spoke with the girls about their experiences at the school and about the reputation graduates have and the many opportunities open to them. Everyone was expected to dress up, and a nice lunch was served. D feels even more than ever that she is in the right place. With 8 weeks behind them, it was a good time to get energized about their college. Believe it or not, they will start choosing classes for next semester in just 2 weeks.
Yes, the math is reportedly under control. Whew.
Ugh!!! My next door neighbor’s have been so loud. I had to tell them to be quiet again last night. As I did Saturday night and one other time the week before. Last time I told the RA, the neighbor’s got mad at me. I hate people getting mad at me
@readingclaygirl It may be helpful to try to talk to them about the noise level during the day when there is no issue. It would seem less confrontational that way and perhaps you can avoid bringing the RA in that way.
@livinginLA I took your advice. Didn’t work- I was told I’m too sensitive
@readingclaygirl Pick your battles. You are attending a very small school. It may be a long 4 years if you alienate your peers. Noise can be unpleasant , but there could be way more serious issues that can pop up. What time is this noise occurring?
@readingclaygirl Can you study in the library and wear ear plugs for sleeping if noise bothers you? A lot of college kids do like to stay up late to talk/have fun. If your dorm does not have posted quiet hours, you may have to live with occasional noise - or join in the late-night conversations.
@readingclaygirl Do you normally study in your room? Can you study in the library, cafeteria or other places on campus? I know that my DD only gets to her room very late at night. They study and hanging out in a floor lounge or libraries. Most of the time they form study groups. If it is easier for you to study without other people around maybe noise canceling earplugs will help.
@Ballerina016 @MOMANDBOYSTWO @carolinamom2boys I don’t study in the dorms or atleast not late at night. This noise takes places after 10 atleast at night and usually goes deep into quiet hours. (11pm weekdays, 1am Friday and Saturday)
We had a great parent’s weekend. The weather was beautiful. We took my son and his roommate out to dinner Friday night. The roommate is a very nice guy and my son likes him a lot. Roommate is fastidious and my son is neat. Their room is really nicely decorated. I could see some other guy’s rooms through open doors and theirs is definitely the nicest. We went to a museum and a gallery we had been wanting to visit. Took him shopping and had brunch in a dining hall. My son has joined several clubs, lives in a LLC and is getting great grades so far. Every where we went someone knew him enough to greet him by name. He took the initiative to get a flu shot and change his voter registration to his campus address. I’d say he is ready to be on his own. He’ll be home for fall break in two weeks though. As an aside, one of his hall mates told me his mother requires him to phone every day! Is that a thing?
@readingclaygirl , I’m sorry the noise is such a bother to you. Unfortunately, even quiet hours aren’t silent, and you’ll probably have to adjust to more noise than you were used to in your quiet home. Can you turn your hearing aids down or off to help quiet things down for you? Another option might be to get a “white noise” generator, or an app on your computer, and play that when the noise bothers you.
I’m deaf in one ear and have tinnitus, so I actually prefer some noise to drown out the buzzing sound. But if I’m trying to sleep, laying on my “good ear” usually blocks out outside noises well enough.
Glad you had a nice time @OspreyCV22 . It’s such a relief when roommates get along, isn’t it? I’ve seen posts here on CC before where parents have their kids call every day. That seems a bit much to REQUIRE, though if it’s voluntary, I’d have no problem with it. My D calls or texts every day. It’s usually not for long though.
@sseamom thanks. By that time of night my hearing aid is out. A white noise generator is a good idea.
Could noise be brought up in a dorm meeting, but in a way that takes the temperature of all residents’ experience, so you’re not singled out? This happened in two of my dorms. It emerged that a lot of students in these all-woman dorms were being bothered and felt the community should shift a bit.
Someone on here mentioned a travel site or app recently (“city” something?) that you can use to determine the best transportation to use in a city to get somewhere, or compare options. What was the name of it?
@dyiu13 we don’t have regular hall meetings
@4kids2graduate I think it was called CityMapper.
Citymapper it is! I love that ap!
Nothing like waiting for evacuation plans for CofC. Husband is out of town of course. While we have plenty of room to accommodate quite a few students , transporting them here will be the issue.
We got hit harder than I thought we would by Hermine here in NW Florida. My south Florida friends were teasing me that I moved out of SoFlo to get hit by a hurricane in the middle of the state.
We may get the wind from Matthew.
Thinking about you @carolinamom2boys!
