Hope Matthew don’t hit anyone in its path TOO hard! Keep us posted! Thinking good thoughts for all of you.
I hope no evacuation is needed @carolinamom2boys !! Bless you for housing multiple students, if it comes to that!
Just spent last night evacuating DS and a classmate from Charleston after working all day. All rolled between work and evacuation I spent 11 1/2 hrs in the car yesterday and was up for 21 hrs straight . To say I’m exhausted is a huge understatement . DS’s classmate’s mother was waiting to pick her up at my house for 2 1/2 hrs. So far everyone is safe. Wanted to pass this along for all of you UBER users. They are price gouging terribly. The Govenor has already declared a state of emergency which means price gouging laws are in effect. One driver charged a student 100 dollars for a 20 min ride to the airport. The mandatory evacuation doesn’t start until today. At 3:00 today all eastbound lanes heading into Charleston are being reversed and only emergency personal will be allowed in. Our County school system is sending school buses east to evacuate people from the coast ( over 200 buses ) CofC students without an evacuation plan are being bussed to Clemson where they are required to stay until they return to Charleston which right now is being estimated to be Sunday at the earliest. Oh , and did I mention my DH is out of town, so the reponsibility fell on DS19 and me. :(( it’s great to have DS16 home for an extended period though.
@carolinamom2boys Glad you made it back safely! Get some sleep!
@carolinamom2boys I’m glad your S is ok! That must be scary
Glad to hear you safely evacuated your son @carolinamom2boys . I was thinking of you yesterday when I saw the news about coastal areas being evacuated.
D got her PA voter card yesterday. She is quite excited about being able to vote in PA where her vote could make a difference.
So glad you were able to go get your boy and his classmate @carolinamom2boys ! I am sure that classmate’s mom is forever grateful. Get some rest and enjoy having him home.
@carolinamom2boys I’ve been thinking of you too!!! Sending good wishes to your whole expanded gang.
Thanks for the update! Get some sleep!
@carolinamom2boys Glad your S is safely home with you.
@carolinamom2boys glad you made it ok and I hope you took today off to rest! That would be a long day for anyone. Enjoy your son’s unexpected visit and I’ll continue to hope that your area is not hit too hard. This looks like a monster of a storm.
Thanks everyone. Our weather here is beautiful. We’re about 3 hrs from the coast so we get a little rain and wind, but should be OK. No idea when classes may resume as the storm has slowed down.
Wow! Has the college announced how it’s going to manage interrupted courses? Hurricane’s not on the syllabus.
They have days built into the schedule for weather, but no formal plans yet.
DS’ school had delayed opening last week due to all the rain on the east coast - they had flooding on the campus quad and streets near campus were washed out. He advised us to bring the SUV because it was parent weekend. I"m hoping the storm does not hit the chesapeake bay area because the water levels there are already so high from last weekend.
We had a great time visiting DS. Met him for lunch on campus, then he came back to our hotel near the beach for dinner before he asked to bring DD back to campus with him to meet his friends. She had so much fun and happily reported that he has a good group of friends. It was nice on campus to see him running into people he knew - since he can’t travel home on weekends I was worried he was keeping to himself. He spent the night at the hotel with us, but really wanted to head back to campus mid-day because ‘sundays are my big day to study and get ready for the week’. Already hoping we can see him once more before Thanksgiving break!
@lifegarding Sounds like a great visit.
@carolinamom2boys Glad you made it through the evacuation. Hope you get to catch up on your sleep. I’m keeping an eye on the storm as my mother is in Florida.
I’m so happy to tell you that DS16 has made the baseball team at his school! He was a walk-on player, so didn’t have a roster spot until today. He’s been practicing with the team this fall, and absolutely loves the boys and the coaches. They have helped my introverted guy integrate into the school quickly and well, and since we’re on the other side of the country, that’s meant even more.
My H is online buying everything with the school name and a baseball on it – I don’t think even the dog will escape without some sort of gear, lol!
Yippee!!
Congrats to him @auntiek
Thanks, @readingclaygirl!!
That is fantastic, @auntiek! It really must be a nice feeling to know that he has a built in group of guys to develop friendships with already. And what an accomplishment to make the team as a walk-on!
