@auntiek How wonderful for your S!
Thatās great @auntiek! Itās wonderful to hear about the things that affirm our kids made the right choices.
Weāve been given the ok to visit S on Sunday. Iām so excited! Hope we can finally get a sense of how things are going. You know, beyond āfineā.
Congrats @auntiek Itās so nice when all their hard work pays off!
S16 home tonight for the weekend! His first trip home since drop off in early August. Itās a busy weekend, but looking forward to having him home for a few days.
Remains to be seen if weāre making the trip to school next weekend for Parent/Family Weekendā¦
Congrats @auntiek ! I understand walk-ons who make it are pretty rare in most sports-good for him!
D and another friend are down in Mississippi with Dās roommate as of today for the long weekend. They have no classes today and left at the crack of dawn. Roommieās mom had a big pot of pasta with fresh veggies waiting for them and they are all thrilled with the home cooked meal. Theyāll be going to the state fair, visiting friends at the local HBCu, where one of Dās best friends is attending, and enjoying lots of home cooking. D really needed this-she was feeling very sad and homesick the last couple of days.
I hope your D has a blast. Iām going home tomorrow morning. I love it here but home is nice.
Doing my usual for your DS @auntiek !
So glad you will get more info @psychmom !! Just seeing him when he says āfineā will tell you more.
DS reports that he has definitely āfound his peopleā and was told by a professor that he got the highest grade across all freshmen on his last general engineering exam!! Things are going well for him. =D>
Correction. @psychmomma not @psychmom. My apologies.
@Cheeringsection Such great news! The academic piece is phenomenal, and thereās nothing like hearing the magic words: āI found my people!ā So happy for him and you!
Congrats to your son @Cheeringsection
@sseamom In looking at the numbers of kids who made the team and who were cut, itās pretty humbling. Weāre proud that he would put himself out there knowing it was a long shot ā he loves baseball more than just about anything, and Iām happy he doesnāt need to give it up just yet.
Itās so great to hear about your Dās adventures! Those sorts of trips are such fun and great memories, to boot.
Iām home. It feels good. Iām still busy with homework but itās a nice change of environment with good food!!
Still waiting to see when we can take DS16 back to school after the hurricane evacuation . Weāve been trying to see through the college webcams but is is hard to see how much damage has occurred . His room is on the first floor, but slightly elevated so weāre not sure how his belongings faired.
Does dorm insurance cover hurricane or flood damage? I hope you do not need to find out @carolinamom2boys !
Weāre fine . I donāt think so. DS16 brought home all of his electronics . Only thing left is clothing . Weāll see.
@carolinamom2boys, if your policy is with colleges student insurance they cover natural disasters. Hope you donāt need it.
Argh. Canāt sleep! So excited to see S! Had the most words from him in 7 weeks about what to bring him. Not one āfineā! I hope heās ready to be smothered in hugs.
Probably not in front of the guys @psychmomma :-?
Hope everyoneās kids are safe and sound at their dorms down south. My niece is at NCSU and tried to drive back to her apartment after the football game and ended up going off the road in her SUV into a ditch due to high water - she is fine but must have been so scary!
Our DS had his own bad luck yesterday - he texted to say he lost his wallet and now has no cash, driverās license, or bank card (and whatever else he carried in itā¦maybe some gift cards?) I reminded him to cancel the bank card right away, which he finally did after I explained how it could be drained by someone else with an ATM visit. But now he realized he has no cash on hand, and Iām not sure that a student ID is sufficient for the bank to issue him a new card.
Learned a few tips I wished Iād shared with him before he left:
- Keep a little cash hidden in your room for emergencies.
- Find a bank that is walking distance from campus - his is 3.5 miles away, and w/out a car impossible to get to. (They are the ATM on campus, but no branch on campus)
- Have a copy of your driverās license number on hand in case you lose the license.
So, this weekend he is without cash and a source of getting any (other than from friends, I guess). I feel like thatās not ideal, but heās on the meal plan so he should be fine, and maybe feeling like this for a few days will teach him to be more responsible with his wallet? He keeps it in his backpack, which is always with him, but he was at another dorm and thinks someone may have stole it out of the backpack when he wasnāt looking. Part of me wants to drive 3+ hours one-way to bring him money and a hug, but instead I think weāll be mailing him some $$ and his old bank card from at home to tide him over while he gets the rest set back up. Iām going to suggest he joins the bank across the street from campus, too!
