I’m sorry you are having a series of craptastic days. Come on over here and sit on the bench with me. Parenting isn’t for sissies. I feel like the words coming out of my mouth single-handedly ruined my kid’s weekend home.
@Midwest67 I’m sorry it wasn’t a great weekend. I hope the next visit is better. You have some wise words to live by. Too bad more people (especially those in the public eye these days) don’t live by them as well.
My daughter’s school, Susquehanna, has fall break this coming Saturday through Tuesday. The school really shuts down. The only two offices open will be Res Life and Public Safety. I told her she can come home, but it would mean riding in a car for 8 hours (plus breaks) in order to stay home for two days, then she’d have to make the same trip back. Friends of hers are doing it, but she says it sounds too tiring. So I guess she’ll stay on campus. I’m not very happy about it, but there’s not much I can do. Her roommate has asked her home for Thanksgiving, but I guess she has other plans this weekend.
Oh, that’s a good idea, but I have two projects I have to work on this weekend (the hard part of being self-employed!).
We suggested she go to Manhattan to visit her older cousin and his wife, but she said that sounds “overwhelming.” I’m learning that she really needs her down time. Unlike her mother! I would go to NYC any chance I got!
Next year, we will try to plan ahead. If I have it on my calendar, it’s easier to fit in.
We will give her a little extra cash so she can go out to eat and see a movie or something. She said there will be a few other kids on campus, at least.
And the great Road Trip of Oct. 2016 is over! D is home-they drove to Nashville by way of Alabama, because one girl has a friend there. it’s strange knowing your kid is on a road trip and you have no idea where she is or when she’ll be anywhere. “Momma V” fed them like royalty and sent them home with plenty of leftovers. The roommate’s sister does hair, so D finally got her burgundy hair color. It looks great. Dad isn’t too happy about it, though. Classes start back up tomorrow.
@livinginLA I’m sorry about your cat and your disagreement with your D. Remember-all of our kids are very bright and accomplished and will likely do fine.
@livinginLA -I’m so sorry things have been rough- and am extra sorry about your cat.
Another year, another FAFSA done. This one makes ten. Only two more to go. I’m so thrilled they are using prior prior tax year. As a self-employed family, it’s always been a struggle to get taxes done by the deadlines. It’s nice to not need to update the numbers later.
We are so very excited to be heading to see our sweet girl and enjoy GW’s Colonial Weekend! So many activities to pick and choose from. She has had an absolute blast so far! From sorority recruitment to her internship to studying with friends at the Library of Congress to her embassy visits, she is in her element in DC! We’ve missed her so much but we either FaceTime or text everyday which has made it go by quicker. Just so excited to see her soon
:x :x :x
Great job @readingclaygirl! You are clearly adjusting well to your college classes.
Have a great time @HappyFace2018. I’m so happy for you and others who have kids that are so happy at their schools. I’m sure it makes the separation easier to handle.
My D WAS enjoying school and Boston and freedom and adulting until she got pneumonia. Now she wants her dog and an acai bowl and someone baby her. Frankly, I want that too. Beam her home, Scotty!
Oh no! @palm715 I hope your D feels better soon! People are getting sick here too- lots of strep throat going around, some tonsillitis, and a couple people with the flu already. So far I’ve stayed healthy thankfully. Pneumonia sounds awful especially being so far from home
DD just asked me to send her more Sambucol. She is fighting not to get cold. She said in her chemistry class today it was almost impossible to hear professor with everyone coughing.
