Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
When a water main breaks at your collegeā¦ Atleast everyone is gone for the holiday. Hoping they fix it soon
Watched the new Gilmore Girls episodes wth D. WAHHH!!! Bookended that with finishing up Walking Dead with S. WAHHH! So many emotions!!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! My son has thoroughly enjoyed his first Thanksgiving, he said the family he is staying with is great, there was a big family function with a sit down meal which he said was delicious. he hasnāt expanded much more on the actual day though. He went off to the shops at 11pm with his friend to catch the Black Friday deals and managed to get a great laptop at a very decent price so he was so proud of himself especially as he is completely self funded while heās in the US working his on-campus job. He said since then he has been trying to get some much needed alone time to recharge his batteries while heās away. He sounds happy
Thanks for the update @zimmum. I am so glad that your son had a great day! The actual day may not have been much more than he told you. The meal is the main event and shopping does fit into the weekend somewhere.
@zimmum that is great to hear!
@readingclaygirl Oh no! Hope it gets fixed soon!
Thanks @mommdc looks like itās going to be a couple days atleast
@zimmum So pleased to hear that your son was part of a family Thanksgiving celebration. Though heās not without challenges, it sounds like heās adjusting. Iām glad to hear heās communicating frequently!
Safe travels to all of your DSs and DDs returning to school today. DH is taking DS16 back in about 30 minutes .
Iām back at school. Itās a mess here. Roadās torn up and we are in a water boil advisory.
My wife took our S16 back to school today; heād bought a guitar at the church auction, and it would have been hard to take on the bus. S18 and I went to a Baltimore Ravens game. 3 more weeks and heās done until the middle of January.
They came, they visited with friends and family, they ate, slept and just hung out. Now they are gone again, but looking forward to them coming back in a few short weeks.
It was great having D16 home for Thanksgiving, and itāll be great to have him home again soonā¦
D is back at school, and while finals actually start next week, at least three classes have papers due in lieu of finals THIS week, so she warned me last night that if I donāt hear from her anytime soon, she is hard at work on her papers. She sent me the Powerpoint part of her presentation in one class where she will be teaching one chapter of the textbook, then quizzing the class about it. She chose gifted education (itās a special ed class and giftedness falls under sped in her state) and while I already knew some of the content, I felt like I did learn some things Iād never known before, so I think she did a good job.
I conferred with her and H-we have a great grocery store here that sells primarily low-cost organic and local groceries plus some brand names, and they donāt have them in her state, so Iām going to start sending her grocery care packages, starting with this āhell weekā. It wonāt cost me much and will save her from spending her budget on some non-perishables. She is in class during dinner three days a week and the same next semester. It will be fun to do every couple of weeks.
Sheās be home very soon-she flies back home on the 8th.
Wow super soon! @sseamom I feel her pain. I have 2 papers and a project due next week- the week before finals week.
I just returned from taking 2 kids back home (10 hours round trip) and am now taking the third to the train. We had a fun time but boy it went fast. This is the easiest holiday to have them leave since theyāll all be back so soon.
It was so much fun having DS home for thanksgiving break! We let DS drive himself back to school because his wisdom tooth was bothering him over the whole weekend he was home, so we wanted him t have a car in case he needs to drive to a dentist this week. Plus, he comes home in less than 3 weeks for winter breakā¦
I worried about the long trip by himself but he was fineā¦until 10 minutes after he unpacked at his dorm and realized his laptop was still here at home! Guess what I ended up having to do that nightā¦yup, a 6 hour round trip drive to get the laptop to him! At least I had a good audio book loaded up on my phone, but definitely wasnāt part of my Sunday evening plans!
.My son was home for nine wonderful days. He and his brother love to decorate for Christmas so they did most of it. S16 had set up a job interview for next summer while he was home. He would work for our county again but this time as a supervisor and he would begin getting paid ten hours a week for planning as soon as heās hired. If he doesnāt get it he can go back to his old summer job. Heās doing well in college. Heāll be home in three weeks for a month and I canāt wait!
@lifegarding you do not have the only forgetful child. Mine left some non-reproducible homework here so I fedexed it yesterday morning. Fortunately it wasnāt due until Thursday.
Add my dd to the list - she packed the car before church and we took two cars so she could leave straight from brunch. At brunch we learned that she left the insurance paper she needed to take to her dentist on the kitchen table, no problem I can scan them and send them to her. She call about 20 minutes after she left and we were still on our way home she called to say she just realized that she also left the the christmas/thank you present for one of her mentors and the room decorations sheād promised her room mate so she had to turn around and drive back home to get them it added another hour on to her 7 hour drive.
I asked S if he had all computer and phone cables, (yes), then after D (senior) got in the car I started driving out of the neighborhood and asked again- computer/phone cables, ID, keys, etc. D said āAhhh, you need to turn around.ā Although she thought it was ridiculous that anyone would forget their laptop charger, yep, thatās what she left under her bed. This is why we ask!!
