DS16 has arrived home 30 minutes ago. Smiles all around . Will be able to access grades on Friday after 5:00. Off to Scouts.
DS gets home tomorrow and is already planning a road trip to see his school friends in the middle week of his 3 week break. Trying not to feel disappointed since I will be off that whole week and was hoping to spend some time with him. DD and I will just have to do some fun things without him.
Personal attitude adjustment report: I have decided to be grateful that my DS has made such great friends. Launching is the priority here.
Weāve got D16 flying in tomorrow night, who will be in for a rude surprise, weather-wise. D13 is taking the train home on Monday. It will be good to see the kids. I think. lol
Iām officially done with the first semester as I took my last final this morning and am leaving in a couple hours
D is on her third day of work, and is also making a wig on the side for a friend who is paying her. I think she prefers the wig-making gig. She has had a chance to see some friends, but is keeping in close touch with her college friends. She got her two closest ones āfirst Christmas as roommatesā handmade ornaments from Etsy, even though one is not really a roommate, she is there a lot. They were just thrilled. Last night she was on Facetime for almost 90 minutes with the young man who makes her giggle. She gave him a ātourā of our house and showed him the progress on the wig, and I got to wave āhiā to him. But theyāre ājust friendsā! My big toe, they are. Itās great to have her home and happy. She even let me fix her covers last night.
That is adorable you got to say hello to her boy friend @sseamom my friends and I are all ready to go home but will miss each other.
Today is the last day of classes and finals will begin on Friday. For some reason they decided to celebrate it with a semi-formal today, before finals so I hope my DD has a common sense not to attend. I wonder if they will adjust their party going behavior next semester when it is not going to be on pass/ no record anymore.
It expected to be 7F tomorrow where she is, about 60 degrees less than here. She really has a problem with wearing hats because it messes her hair. I am tired of conversation how do dress up in a cold climate so I hope she figures it out herself.
Canāt wait for her to come home. She will start her externship in January for a month. And she can wear shorts in January again!
@Ballerina016 Maybe the semi-formal will be a nice way to let off steam before the pressure of finals? I grew up where your D is and almost never wore a hat in the winter to preserve my hair styles. And Iām on a oldies hometown page that recently put up a photo of my old HS in the 1950ās in the middle of winter with huge snowbanksāand non of the girls were wearing hats! I guess itās a New England tradition that goes WAY back. But 7 degrees can lead to frostbite-just point that out to her in case she plans to be outside for any length of time. My sister found out the hard way trying to look cute while skiing in HS.
Thank you about frostbite information @sseamom . I passed it along. Good to know that this is a New England thing not to wear hats, and not just her. As far as the steam realizing, I would not worry too much about it, since they have parties every weekend, including this upcoming one so two parties during the week of finals might be a little too much fun. Donāt you just want to be 18 year old college student again?
My D got some earmuffs from me for when she doesnāt want to wear a hat.
Iām supposed to drive up to Philly to pick up S noonish on Saturday, but it may be icy. He wants to see a movie here at 4pm, so he may need to take the train if he wants to get home by then.
Weather does sound a bit iffy this weekend, @mstomper so taking the train is probably a good option if S can manage to bring everything home with him on it.
DS has his last exam wrapping up in a few minutes - not sure if heāll drive home tonight or wait until tomorrow. Itās about 3 hours to get here, but a peaceful trip and it might snow a bit after midnight so maybe he should leave today to miss that.
Iām home and feels oh so good
Iām getting a little worried about the drive to get S on Saturday. Snow and icy conditions starting Friday into Saturday night. Doesnāt seem Iāll be able to avoid it.
My grandmother always warned, ācute catches cold!ā However, my girls must speak a different language than me because they always get this strange look on their faces and start to laugh when I say it.
@Waiting2exhale Clearly I have nothing to worry about.
@carolinamom2boys :Why not? No cold or (impossible) no cute? Can it really be that much less mind-bending with a house full of boys?
I am very slow this evening in my responses. ā¦ using a darned cellphone.
My cute days are over @Waiting2exhale
We Moms have GOT TO have a different internal dialogue, @carolinamom2boys .
Or at least keep some really good girlfriends in our lives. (Or maybe keep the youngest boy around longer than the others stayed around. Baby boys just dole out sooo much love. Not letting mine get any older!
