@me29034 I hope the beds can be bunked. Looks like the suites have a living room too? Anyhow that would be great if the girls can live together. It says in the Panther Hall description that they have a lounge and study hall available on every floor.
I think suite and apt selection was in the beginning of March and next week juniors start picking their rooms, so maybe they wanted to contact them this week to see if they wanted the suite before someone else claims it.
Aloooooha! I donāt know how many of you will remember me. I dropped off CC last fall, but reading through the last 20 pages or so reminded me what a lovely group this is! My D is at Northeastern (thanks to a lot of help from all of you in the final decision making process). I think itās been a good fit, despite the fact it has not all been wine and roses.
She switched from bioengineering to mechanical engineering, has a lab/research job, belongs to two engineering based clubs, a leadership training group, and is getting certified to teach group exercise classes. She made the Deans List first semester and is on-track for this semester but definitely finds the workload challenging. She loves all the museums and events that make Boston such a great college city. On the downside, her first group of busom buddies ended-up being a bust. The change in weather and close living quarters has resulted in a lot of illness. Finally, being a vegan and institutional eating has not been a match made in heaven.
For me, itās been figuring out how to be the mom she wants and needs from 5000 miles away. She really was made for this type of independence. Me? Not so much. I am desperate for more, more, more information than I get while realizing begging for said information is not going foster the most healthy relationship. I guess our kidās arenāt the only ones who can experience growing pains! It has been interesting to see the change in how we relate as a family without her. She has always been more intense than my husband, son, and myself, so our hale has gotten downright silly without her keeping us in line!
Well, Iām glad to be back. I allowed CC to be a little too intense for me for awhile, so my goal is to use it more thoughtfully this time around. I am glad this thread is still an oasis of kindness and support.
So glad you checked back in @palm715 . Good news DD is doing well.
Funny how much difference a year makes!- This thread isnāt as busy as it used to be but, still is a nice place to read through posts & catch up with all.
DS comes home tomorrow for break. Ready for a visit & a hug. Anyone else with spring break- enjoy!
DS headed back today after being home for spring break this past week. I tried my best to fatten him up! He spent the week decompressing and playing around with his camera. The next time I see him we will be bringing him home for the summer! 6.5 week countdown.
Just returned from dropping DS16 back at CofC. Who wouldāve thought Iād be driving back in the snow in March? 7 1/2 weeks and heāll be home, and freshman year will be a memory .
DS comes home late Thursday nightā¦sounds like his break is much later than most. His birthday falls during his spring break, so that will be fun to celebrate with him. I canāt believe how soon it is before freshman year wraps up for all of our kids!
Sās Spring break starts Saturday. Heās spending part of it with friends before coming home. Iām excited he will overlap with older S as he will be home for a day between traveling overseas and going back to work.
D had to stay on the East Coast in 4-degree weather for her sport over spring break, which is pretty much at a stand-still due to that 4-degree weather. She called tonight and sheās getting sick. Meanwhile, her brother came home and is enjoying some very lovely weather in our neck of the woods. Trying not to mention this to D and also trying not to remind her that I told her to tell the coaches she had to come hope for some doctorsā appointments (which would have been timely and useful). Ah, the trials of parenting almost adults!
Nice to hear from so many popping back in after a while. Thanks especially for the update, @palm715.
Weāre in FL this week watching DS play baseball. The weather has been beautiful, the parents are fantastic, DS pitched a brilliant game, and best of all, DD drove up from the Keys to be with us for a few days. Iām one happy momma!
So nice to see all the updates! We had a nice spring break-D mostly hung around, ate her favorite foods and shopped-in between talking to friends here and from school. She had a couple of dinners out with old friends, added some new shoes to her wardrobe-and no, she did NOT need any new ones, but consignment! She went back on Monday and has exactly 7 weeks left, 8 if she gets a job doing orientation-sheāll have to stay for training.
Hard to believe thereās only a few weeks left of freshman year! At this time last year so many of our kids were on the SS Indecision. The portal for choosing her fall sophomore classes opened today, and next week is housing choice. She and her roommate are rooming together and hope to get the room theyāve been advised to pick for its extra space in the girls upper class dorm. Theyāre also both applying to volunteer for admitted studentsā weekend. While D was home she confirmed that she has a job with the Urban League here in town, working on their summer program for at-risk youth (some of whom will be older than herā¦). Sheās also been invited to go to the national youth summit with the leadership team. She made it to the finals in one teaching residency, but it turned out that she wasnāt old enough But Iām not adverse to her spending one more summer at home.
As the year comes to an end, D has a serious boyfriend (yikes) who hopes to go to Fisk in the fall, but meanwhile works three jobs and is a talented photographer with his own business. He also works in the media lab at the college. But all expenses are on him, and money is an ever-present challenge. He may have to go back to his home in CA if the financials donāt work out. For now, though, D is taking things as they come, and she and her friends are looking forward to getting out in the nicer weather and enjoying Nashville. They already have plans to see a baseball game and revisit a funky farmerās market just down the road.
D16 has had housing & a roommate lined up for next year, since November. Then, yesterday, her roommate told her she has changed her mind and is living off campus next year.
D16 is disappointed, understandably. I hope she can figure it out a new roommate with minimal anxiety & upset.
