I’m relieved to hear that the murder-suicide incident at UCLA is over. sigh.
We are done for this year . Technically, tomorrow is the last day, but my oldest graduates tomorrow . Today was a half day so I didn’t send DS19. Grades are in and he only had one absence , so I let him stay home. I’m ready for a break.
I’m ready for a break too but we aren’t quite done yet.
Soon @mom2twogirls , soon. Off to Disney next week.
Almost done. Tomorrow is the last day and we are quizzing her for that final. Please let her finish strong!!!
D19 still has half days this week, then finals early next week and will be done 6/8. He brought home his AP summer assignment packets yesterday.
Chomping at the bits to be done! His last exam is the 8th as well. Two 2 hour long finals down, four more to go. 2 of his finals covered material since the mid term only (Algebra II and Bio), the rest of the finals cover the entire year. These finals must be pretty serious as I’ve never witnessed this son of mine stay up past 11 to study for any kind of test. Home stretch all…let’s all hang on!!
Glad that the UCLA situation is over but ill that it took place at school, whatever the real story ends up being. The trauma inflicted on so many…ugh. I hate this. Drills for this in MS and HS, real scares and lockdowns becoming commonplace, just…ugh.
Envious of all that have just finished or are almost done, we aren’t even quite in the homestretch. Even more envious of those heading out for family vacations when done. We get a rotating list of house guests/inlaws. I love them but…vacation sounds SO much nicer!
@eandesmom I couldn’t tell you the last time we went on a week long vacation.
@carolinamom2boys you are long overdue! Ours was April 2015 and that feels SO long ago. Next one will not be until July of 2017 for S17’s graduation trip. Enjoy this time, you only get so many of these before they are fully out of the next.
We are also heading to Disney in a few weeks too, 'Lina. D16 almost sheepishly said that’s where she wanted to go, with just our family, for her “senior” trip. I was secretly overjoyed. Maybe these seniors want to stay little for a while longer? :x
It’s funny @EastGrad , friends of ours will also be there next week for a graduation trip.
Disney is our family favorite. We’ve tried a couple other vacations and they are nice, but they aren’t Disney! My d19’s dream job is still to be an imagineer (she determined that 4-5 years ago at least)
Done with school last week. Trying to convince a 15 year old boy to study for a Bio SAT test that “no one else is taking, MOM!” has been rough this week. Tried to tell him that he’s awake for 14 hours every day and two of those could easily be used for reviewing and then he’s free to go to the pool, go for a run, visit with friends, whatever he wants! The test is Saturday and then I think we will all feel like it’s truly summer.
Vacations are so important. It’s the time that we all connect and make memories. Headed to Lake Tahoe and Napa on Monday. It was the only week of the summer that we are all free. Our daughter will be at ballet intensive for 25+ hours a week starting mid-June and our S19 will be running XC, taking art classes, and volunteering. And then crazy high school starts so early with XC runners due back August 10th!
Disney will be part of S17’s grad trip and S19’s
Two more finals and D19 is done. I’m just so disheartened by my kid right now. Last weekend we sat down to help her study for Bio (C- going into the final) and discovered she hadn’t bothered to print out the study guide OR ever use the online textbook. She was relying on notes taken in class by her and a classmate - they split it up - which meant that at least half of the notes she had never absorbed before. She was horrifically unprepared. The worst. Sigh
So a hearty welcome to @DeltaMom2019 - I’m right there with you on the not-on-the-Ivy track!
Especially after the last week!
Community college, here we come
It is early , don’t despair @Gatormama . There are plenty of great choices out there.
Disney is the only spot where both my kids are happy to go all the time :"> For all other spots, at least one of them needs to be bribed. Lol.
Unfortunately, my husband is the one who would have to be bribed to go to Disney again. He is done with the magic. We took the kids to Disney World when they were young (couldn’t miss out on the Disney princess time with youngest daughter) and took them to Disneyland while they were in middle school. I know many families love Disney over and over again and I get that. Maybe when we have grandchildren in 20 years, we will venture back with them!
@homerdog It is hard. I gave up two years ago having DS17 take Bio test. Even in Junior year now, I know he wants to say, no one else is taking these tests, MOM!, but when he gets to the testing center, he sees a bunch of his school and neighborhood friends at every test, and starts chatting/commiserating.
In one year, next June test, your S will start meeting kids his grade at test centers, and complaining will hopefully subside.
DS17 took his first subject test (Math 2) in June of sophomore year.
DS19 is slogging through physics test prep book this week. You can tell S although he can’t see them many many 9th graders (who are aiming selective colleges) are taking the test this Saturday.
Statistically more than 60% of his classmates will go to in-state public colleges (where all can get great education), that is why majority of kids are not taking subject tests nor sat/act until Junior year spring.
