Parents of the HS Class of 2019 (Part 1)

@carolinamom2boys Ooh, I’m jealous!

@awesomepolyglot We never had pluses or minuses . Straight A-F scale. 93-100 A, 85-92 B, 77-84 C, 70-76 D, anything below a 70 is an F. This year DS19 will be able to earn an A with a 90. The states surrounding us already have this grading scale .

@carolinamom2boys Mine’s the same way, at least on the state level. The district uses a 9-point. It doesn’t make any sense.

@carolinamom2boys Having the same capricious teacher twice seems unfair, really unfair.

@eandesmom I had never heard of club soccer on the college level. You guys must be super fit to have a family race through campus, Damn girl!

@2019hope I wouldn’t say race, we were just out for a run, SD was showing us her normal running route. Which was great except I was trying not to lose sight of her and H so I didn’t get lost back in the fields! Kind of sad though as I’ve now become the slowest of the family. I hate holding people back though so made them go ahead half way (and then had to pull out my phone gps a couple times to stay on course) but I found them despite that. Lol!

Many schools have intramurals, club and then their divisional sports. Many also have levels within the intramurals. I am not sure what the criteria for their being a club level of play or not.

We are so grateful they have club. It’s really become her sorority if you will and shaped her college experience and network.

S19 and his friends had opening night for their musical last night. Afterward, they went out to eat. Picked S19 and his two friends up after 1am. They stayed up until 4am. Slept on our couches. Today, they have a matinee performance. Gee, I remember when I could function without much sleep! I-)

@Undercovermom1, I kind of feel like having teenagers is a repeat of having babies–not much sleep for parents at times! Though, both mine are in bed already tonight. Working to get sleep schedules back on track…S19 has band first thing in the morning!

I worked the “Barf Tent” this morning for the band and dance team. Lots of barf, lots of overheated kids with pale faces. That was a little unnerving - they’re pouring with sweat but their color was awful. The band moms were very well equipped. I had a good time, but now I’m exhausted. 4 hours in the heat is a long time!

@2019hope That’s awful! Our S19 had XC time trials last week and three kids threw up and one passed out! What the heck? When I dropped him off, I told him to take it easy. These time trials don’t even really matter for anything. Just an update on how training is going. Not worth throwing up. That doesn’t prove anything except that you don’t know how to make good decisions!

I hear stories like the ones @2019hope and @homerdog tell, and I remember that I used to be faculty at a school where the coach very literally worked an athlete in a revenue sport to death during summer practices. The coach was untouchable, it turned out, and so there were no repercussions.

Well, except for the kid and his family, of course.

@dfbdfb I am not surprised by your story unfortunately .

Minor rant here. Will I ever be able to stop saying every stinking morning, “Did you brush your teeth and put on deodorant?” I did not have this problem with his sisters.

^^^^^

Nope. So far this is a constant battle in our house.

Hey, how about brushing your teeth, combig your hair, putting on deodorant before you go out in public. It might help.

@dfbdfb Man o Man… That’s exactly why I’m working the tent for the next few weeks.

I was wondering when my 13 y/o daughter will care of about her hygiene…has not occurred yet. It doesn’t happen unless I nag.

I think hygiene cranks up when they have a crush at school. Our S19 showered, cut his nails, and got up early for a few months at the end of the school year because there was a girl he looked forward to seeing each day!

@mom23travelers you are not alone. I especially love it when he showers and puts the dirty clothes back on! Or tries to wear running shirts multiple times. Nasty.

Been thinking about your story all morning, @dfbdfb. So sad and unnecessary. @carolinamom2boys, I cannot believe your S has to have that teacher again, ARGH.

S19 will take 3 or 4 APs as a sophomore: AP AB Calc, APUSH, AP Geo and/or AP Enviro. He had AP Stats last year.

He is taking it in stride @EastGrad . It is not an honors class this time and it’s one semester .

Good for him, @carolinamom2boys. I hope there are no more crazy, long projects.
