Yes you can sign up for housing. You might lose your deposit if he goes somewhere else, but you are allowed to hold a spot without committing.
The CV19 disruptions have put many of my kidās plans in jeopardy. There was a college revisit that I felt was really important as she didnāt really care for the school last year but has seemed to warmed up to it since applying and being accepted.
@pickledginger , D20 heard from UCSD, still waiting to hear from UCLA.
Iāve been wondering, in light of current events, if colleges might push their deposit deadlines to June 1, and saw today that Clarkson did so. Has anyone else heard if this is happening at any other colleges?
Yes, there is a list of colleges circulating online who have pushed their deposits back to June 1. Not any that my kid applied to.
@lkg4answers can you help me with the right search string to find it? I would love to take a peek, though I doubt we are lucky enough for Dās colleges to be on it.
Iām trying to find it. It was posted on someoneās FB feed and was a google doc. If I find it, I will post it.
With all this upheaval and our forced Coronacation, Iām in a mood. DS has to decide, has no clear front runner, is out of school indefinitely, and weāre doing what we can to help in a way that doesnāt feel like pressure. Weāre in suspended animation. We canāt visit 1 school without ignoring social distancing, and the others are all similar. I just want him to decide and move on. But I also get that this is not a normal season. Just venting, drinking wine, and bingeing The West Wing. Thanks for listening!

Interesting that Clarkson isnāt yet on the list, but this is helpful. I have a feeling the list will get longerā¦
@CTCape . . . West Wing, the best show ever! My favorite episodes were about alternative energy policy and student loan/debt/tuition costs.
I am looking forward to Monday night, when the second season of another great show, My Brilliant Friend, will air on HBO. A rare example of the show being as good or better than the books, in my opinion.
Creighton also will allow a June 1st reply, when requesting an extension in advance.
@pickledginger yes I love My Brilliant Friend! So glad it will be back. Need to get my
Mind off this stressful college stuff while weāre sequestered
@pickledginger : I think of the energy and momentum of the West Wing episode on the tuition crisis quite often. Great tv.
I am sooooooo glad DD got into her EA and we had a chance to do a last visit so she is committed and all settledā¦on that at least.
Now itās just all the end of year senior stuff thatās in limboā¦so far prom is off (I have a feeling it will be over the summer), no school until, at least, after Easterā¦we have no idea about IB exams, dinners, honors, graduation, etcā¦ugh! Itās a rabbit hole I donāt wanna go down.
I am really sympathetic for those who are still trying to make a decision or are still waiting. But, you can do a little research from home and get a really good sense of how well run a college is by investigating how they are handling this crisis. Are they giving timely and transparent updates? Have they thought through scenarios? Does their communication style feel like they care about their students or are they following mandates reluctantly? Are students feeling happy or devastated that the āliveā semester is over? While none of these factors may be the most compelling criteria for picking a school, they are indicative of an administrationās responsiveness. These factors may be more pertinent for you than your student, but the P.I.T.A. factor of dealing with a less well run school for four years is relevant.
D20 is down to 2 schools - one has a full tuition scholarship possibility. She was supposed to have a Skype interview next week, but they have decided to scrap the interviews and just go by the applications. The interview would have worked in her favor, so we are not happy. If she doesnāt get this scholarship, the school thatās really her top choice is a lot more expensive, and she feels like sheās made more connections with committed students there. A months ago the expense was a consideration, but after what the markets have done in March, itās a much bigger consideration. Ugh.
Read this about AP testing today:
https://apcentral.collegeboard.org/about-ap/news-changes/coronavirus-update
No idea how cheating would be stopped if students test at home, but am glad to see they are coming up with options to still have students be able to test if they are not back in school come May. Will be interested to see what they post on March 20th as far as details. My daughter has 4 AP classes and has registered for the AP tests for all 4 of them.
Thanks @voyagermom That has been my big question lately
