Like a previous poster, I find it odd that a new kid is able to come to the school and edge out the prior ranked students with grades from coursework outside of the new school. It seems like there should be some sort of special accommodation where that kid might at most tie with the new school’s valedictorian(s) with an asterisk by his/her name. But what do I know?
@inthegarden hugs to your D. What a goofy situation.
Help! We have a problem. DD’s EA submision is due tonight to St. Mary’s College of MD. We just realized a transcript was sent to Mt. St. Mary’s instead. We’ve sent her GC an e-mail and can’t reach him by phone.
Q: Can she still submit the application without the transcript and still get in under the EA deadline? Thanks for your help.
@Muad_dib Check with St. Mary’s – usually schools have document submission deadline that’s a little later than the application deadline. But check the school’s website, just in case.
@Muad_dib Does your daughter have a copy of the transcript she can email the AO or upload? I would email the AO and let them know what she discovered- without blaming. Do the things you can control and what is out of your control, is just that. I can’t imagine they would penalize your daughter for this.
OK, so we got an e-mail from her GC (kudos to him for responding on a Sunday evening!) and he said SMCM din in fcat get her transcript. Don’t know why it’s not reflected in her Naviance page. So, her first application is on its way!
She made it just in time! Apps sent, last supplemental pretty much redone at 11pm. Didn’t help that she went on a first date from 4-9 -why would she plan that today?! Her friends stayed here while she was gone and they all got their EA applications done as well. Now she is sitting here telling us about her date and I can tell she feels SO much better. Hope we can all get a good night sleep tonight.
Congratulations to everyone who got applications in before the deadline last night! Such a relief! And congratulations to all who have already received acceptances - it’s all so exciting!
D has submitted 5 EA apps, including one last minute add which had two supplemental essays. I could see essay fatigue setting in, but she was not interested in hearing my suggested edits. I went back and looked at it later and she ultimately crafted a solid essay … but really didn’t answer the prompt. Haste makes waste!
Two more will be submitted today, including her ED. Exciting times, for sure! After she hit submit for the first time, we all celebrated, and then I snuck away for a quick power cry. Proud, emotional, happy and sad all at once.
@momtogkc it sounds like your house is the place to be! I’ll send D over to finish up the remainder of her supplements?
@Solstice155 - I know how you feel. When DD hit “submit” for her first EA app, she kept hitting the “celebrate” button (or whatever it was called) to put more confetti on the screen. I like that they do that.
@momtogkc I like @Solstice155’s idea! I’m the family reviewer/editor. I hurt my back and sitting at the computer reviewing supplements for twins is killing me! It also makes me feel bad for kids who don’t have a parent able to do this. I’m certainly not an expert, but lots of parents don’t have the time or ability to help. Thank you for helping some of those kids!
@momtogkc I love that you are helping your D’s friends! What a fun, bonding time for all of you! I can picture being that house when its D23’s turn in a few years. My S and his friends don’t seem to be talking very much about college stuff. I can’t tell if its because they want to keep things private or its a guy thing?
I feel a little detached from S’s college process. With virtual school, test cancellations, covid stress and all the unknowns of the future, attempting to get any college planning done was beginning to put a huge rift between us. So, he started working with a CC this fall who has been a complete godsend. He enthusiastically checks tasks off the list when they are assigned by the CC and is far more relaxed and excited about the process. We do have a confetti video of his first submitted EA app though!
Are there any other criteria you can give ? General location/part of the country, size of school, particular interests, selectivity range, etc. There are definitely schools still interviewing that interview before application (at applicant’s request for interview) and that have no application fee, but I think the suggestions will be more on target if you can help us dial in the school type a bit more.
