@sushiritto Part of me wished I had it! I had common app log in so that I could proofread at my own leisure but I didn’t want to see the portal and now I’m sure he can see it in my face whenever I hear updates from CC
I agree with you! I do not know how am I going to keep up with this stress:(
She gave me the list yesterday and now already I have checked twice on some of the portals…I need to stop or just wait patiently:)
@Prep4Uni So tell us what can be found in the mysterious portals!! We wanna know!
Interesting for anyone thinking of taking a trip to NorCal. FYI, I just received an email from the State Soccer Referee association stating that competition will resume in early March. Positive vibes!
I have an Airbnb in Santa Cruz with D24 this weekend. silly excited to go somewhere out of the house.
Our county case count is like 49. They plan to reopen elementary March 1.
Depending on what else comes in for D21, LMU and SCU shouldn’t be counted out. Right now they are on the back burner but, if CA opens and she wants to see them in April, we will go. The schools are both saying visits won’t happen but if things change enough that could change. Late April is still eight weeks away.
I told my husband to keep an eye out for a limited amount of modified tour appts at our NE schools.
Just listened to this podcast today with the TCU “Innovation Born Out of Necessity. A Conversation with TCU’s Heath Einstein” at
He predicts around minute 20 that due to yield concerns (private?) colleges will accept more students, offer more aid up front and use the waitlist while they carefully watch early yield #s. Fewer outright rejections. Indicated still may be room adjust merit but will put most of the aid in up front (best foot forward). This college’s yield was flat but they might benefit from California’s closures. Obviously the more competitive colleges YMMV.
I’m not going to be surprised when they end up with a LONG waitlist. So much uncertainty.
Well, I was going to ask Santa Clara for some of your D’s SCU merit money, but now that SLO has blessed us with an acceptance today, I’m not going to have to do that to your family.
SLO was either 1a, 1b or maybe 1c. We’ll have to figure that out later when the UC’s release. We’ve already visited and toured SLO a couple times, so we’re very close to being finie or fini. I didn’t take French.
Congrats on the acceptance, but I admit I’m totally lost with the CA lingo, lol! What’s SLO? What 1a, 1b, et.c – is that how you rank colleges on the Cali app?
I feel like I need a CA admissions primer!
Congrats again!
Good thing I read CC to know that Cal Poly SLO started releasing decisions…told my D21 to go check the portal and she was accepted! Since it was a long shot, she had ruled it out mentally. I am thrilled for her to have this as an option. It’s the only in-state school she applied and it’s not likely she’ll stay in CA for college…but still, during this crazy year, that she was admitted to a reach school is a big feel good moment for her, and one I think she’ll remember !
Sorry, that’s my fault. SLO = Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
As for the 1a, 1b or 1c, that’s just my own D’s rankings. “SLO” is at the top of her college list, right along with maybe a UC or two. Maybe.
Ah, got it! I was reading too much into it! Anyway, congrats on the admit – sounds like she’s getting close a decision – exciting!
Congrats to this who have received good news recently! I am living vicariously through you during the long wait. D won’t hear for another month. Possibly sooner from McGill, but it’s rolling admissions so who knows.
D seems pretty checked out on the whole process at this point, when I asked her about dates she had no idea when she would hear. She is happy with her EA acceptances and hearing about the huge number of applicants makes her feel like everything else is a reach. To be honest, as the optimistic mom I really do hope she gets in to another school, but it’s so hard to know or predict.
Congrats on the California acceptances!
I bought super cheap plane tickets and made reservations for a USF and UCF visit in a few weeks. Fully refundable with credit if we chicken out, but I really think my kid needs the visuals to motivate her that this is really happening and she can be a college student in the fall. She’s really in a slump with motivation and self image and I am thinking the calculated risk (DH and I are both fully vaccinated and case counts are decreasing) will be worth it.
Congrats on the new acceptances! I’m a Cal Poly SLO alum and loved it.
I think we will see colleges (not the tippy tops) go after full pay no test score applicants from the waitlist. They all want to protect their budget and ranking. Plus they can manipulate how they offer from the waitlist to boost yield.
I think SLO is the best college town on California and probably one of the best in the country.
I sent the podcast to a full pay friend on TCU’s waitlist. He’s also considering some Big 10 business schools which would be less expensive.
Enjoy your trip- both campuses are very nice. That is one good thing about FL, no travel restrictions! It makes it easier to see schools.
