No. You don’t need to self report unless the school requires it. Most do not. None of S24s schools did. The common app will prompt if it’s necessary.
In the Northeastern example, the SRAR is in the portal. Common App doesn’t mention it at all, as far as I can see. (The SRAR is a different platform, not the Courses and Grades section that is part of Common App.)
Pitt required it, but once it’s entered you can share it with another school (Delaware in our case).
This is what I was concerned about. I looked it up and it seems that Binghamton uses it but not if you send a transcript. So I don’t get why any school would want it if the school is sending official transcripts
Garg Arg Arg. I posted a few weeks back about C24’s counselor appointment getting canceled at the last minute. Well, they’re supposed to have their rescheduled meeting today and (a) the counselor wasn’t actually there at the appointment time, and (b) he double-booked the time slot anyway. C24 is now sitting in the office, waiting while the other kid gets seen first and hoping that the counselor will agree to stay and meet with them after that (the school day ends in about 15 minutes).
I’m at a loss – those counselor recs are a required aspect of every kid’s application. How can it be this hard just to meet the counselor (let alone get any meaningful help)? I don’t even know how to help my kid at this point.
I’m not asking for the fancy stuff, like Naviance or even that the counselor be able to pick my kid out of a lineup. I just want my kid to have the opportunity to get their forms filled out in a timely, hopefully accurate, fashion.
They all have different requirements. I ended up working with DS to make spreadsheet of what all each school required. It’s on their websites but when you apply, the checklist on the school portal will also tell you. I guess some schools like it because they can speed up review process- not sure why else they’d use it.
for the interview, look at the school’s common data set. It should tell you which category is the “interview” .
That is weird. S24’s Northeastern portal didn’t have SRAR listed.
Same boat here with interviews. D24 does NOT want to do them. I have looked at the common data sets and most say “considered”… but I know that they are not guaranteed and slots run out at most places, so…???
evergreen–you are On The Ball!
Not exactly lol. More like, spreadsheets = anxiety management technique
Maybe new this year?
Yes, if I ask daily as things pop into my head (which is how I would have done it, kids will not talk to me about this at all lol! That’s why the weekly meeting was the best suggestion on this site I’ve seen!
I think SRAR and SSAR have now merged so at least that’s good!
ohhhhhhh - progress!!!
Good to know.
I know someone mentioned Pitt and Delaware b4. We had Miami and Pitt.
S24 applied to NEU a week ago, set up his portal, and did not have to enter grades or SRAR. School already submitted his transcript.
Maybe this is for a specific program?
I would have him check the portal carefully. “All first-year applicants are required to submit” SRAR sounds pretty clear. Let us know what he sees. Per the website, it should be under the Required Application Checklist Items. https://admissions.northeastern.edu/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/FA24-How-to-Complete-the-SRAR-Guide.
I was surprised D24 didn’t resist, because I fully expected her to say, “no way.” It’s more of a conversation than an interview. And lots of schools have current students that work with the admissions office do them.
We watched a couple of virtual sessions about interviews, and I think that made her feel better. Hamilton College has one, and I can’t remember the other we watched.
Thanks for the heads up!
I just spoke with the admissions office at Northeastern since there was nothing in his application status about SRAR.
The lady said that yes, just like you said, all students will have to fill out the SRAR, but they are running very behind on adding that to their checklist. They hope to get SRAR added to everyone’s application status in a week or so.
Thanks again for mentioning.
Thanks! That is good to know.
