Thanks. The EA school moving off the list he says he doesn’t really want to attend. Fair enough. I suggested he could reconsider later, for RD, if he felt a need to add schools at that time, that he doesn’t have to close the door completely. In part, I suspect he doesn’t want to write supplements lol.
The ED school had shot to the top of the list when he first visited last winter, which is why I’m not entirely shocked. He keeps things very close to the vest and said he’s been thinking about this for a couple of weeks. All in all, I think it’s a good fit. Potential top choice #2 has ED2 available and it seems to me that these two schools go together well, i.e., if I said what they were, you all would nod your heads, they just make sense. It’s almost as though the fog of the list is beginning to clear.
Will he have moments of cold feet if he gets in? Perhaps. I imagine a round of cold feet no matter where he chooses to attend and plan to warn him about this.
This interview can only help you - though we found that they “sold out” early, before we realized they were applicant initiated. IOE, when the schools have this sort of interview, they were almost always just a one on one info session. I wont quite say a sales pitch but the interviewer spent a significant amount of time talking up the school.
We had a school where the stuff “was lost in transit.” It was fine, the CC just resent everything after it didn’t show up for a week. I highly recommend checking each portal every once in a while.
They absolutely still have it, but it is a little bit hidden - it’s only on the sidebar (left of admissions page) instead of on the main page. Video Introduction | Undergraduate Admission | Brown University
S24 only knew to look for it - otherwise he wouldn’t have known. For students who aren’t in the know it would be very easy to miss it.
It’s also mentioned at the end of the (long) pop-up message my kid received on the Common App after submitting the Brown application. The message also said the video introduction is due Nov. 4 for ED, which is different than what the website says (one week after student gets their Brown portal login). Clear, consistent messaging on this clearly isn’t the priority!
My daughter is nearly done with the scholarship app due tomorrow. It has been a ton of work. Multiple essays and a creative piece to submit. Having such a big thing due just as many EA deadlines come is really hard.
I did some searching and made a list of things needing to be done still and their due dates. Once this scholarship is in, hopefully tonight, she has nothing due until 12/1. Whew. She needs a break. After that is a couple in early Dec., but then not until Feb. Hoping those items get taken care of over Christmas.
For ED, do schools have time to check Q1 grades or they just work with whatever information is given to them by Nov 1? The question is to whether we would need to send in the transcript again once the grades are out (in S’s school around mid Nov).
Depends on the college. Some highly selective ones do ask for first quarter grades. It wouldn’t be another transcript, but perhaps a copy of the report card.
I have always found this a bit irksome because high schools in our area do not have quarter grades, only semester. My understanding is that colleges call up counselors and ask for whatever’s sitting in Canvas, which can include incomplete grading. Not fair, IMO.
(As far as I can tell, my S’s ED school doesn’t ask for first quarter grades.)
D24 got all of her EA apps in late last week. I’m thankful that we nudged her to not wait until the last minute, because Thursday evening, she was in a serious car accident. She is ok (thank g-d), but pretty bruised and rattled and sad. She spent most of the last three days resting, and would have been in no condition to work on applications. So, at least there’s that.
She does have one last task to attend to - she is unable to link her SRAR to her Rutgers app (the link doesn’t work, maybe it expired?). She emailed admissions about it last night, and is going to speak with her guidance counselor today. We figure, worst case scenario is that the app isn’t considered complete for the Nov. 1 deadline and she gets pushed to the RD pool.
Anyway…big sigh of relief here and hoping everyone else gets to enjoy a lull in frantic app submission activity shortly.
Gripe here - what is the point of SRAR? Im getting nervous that S24 will report something incorrectly! there is so much information to be filled. Are the SRARs due on Nov 1 as well for ED?
