S24 got admission package from Goucher College via mail today. He got top merit from there as well, which was nice.
It has IR and has good Pre Med, much like Seton Hall. And it is closer to DC… now he has one more school to decide.
I like the pop-up Rowdy the Gopher, which came with the package.
This is so cute! Congrats!
Another question.
Will all admission packets be mailed? We are expats working abroad, but have a US address listed as our permanent address (the grandparents’ home). D24 has one early acceptance, but learned via email.
This our first application cycle, not sure what to expect.
I truly value this forum, I have learned so much from your posts!
D20 and D23 were notified first by an email telling them their portal had been updated and then received notification via snail mail a couple days later.
Every school they applied to sent acceptances both ways, so it was a fun treat for them to open their big envelope/packages and see what in person goodies they received after getting the electronic confetti showers.
Don’t expect a fast envelope (acceptance) vs a thin envelope (rejection)
Decisions are posted on the application portal like @beebee3 said.
Decisions are posted online. Then, emails come out. Then, several days/weeks later, mail will come for those decisions.
It is early for thanksgiving. With all the busyness and things to do, I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you for providing us with great support, guidance, critic, help and above all your time to make someone’s life better. Thanks to this forum for being informational, inspirational, entertaining and just addictive
Do schools actually send physical rejection letters in the mail anymore?! I forgot about the fat vs thin envelopes from back when I applied! D22 was a recruited athlete and only applied to one school. S24 has applied to some reaches so we are expecting some rejection.
They would do both online and mail (very slow). For the application fee we pay, they should send us a physical mail as a way to make sure parents/guardians ( sponsors) get to act to pay them more
Even rejection mail is a courtesy and future marketing as many households have future prospectives. It is one big business.
Schools typically don’t send rejection letters in the mail. Just an online update.
Maybe some schools do, but none that I know of.
I agree with @dadofjerseygirl. Colleges generally don’t send rejections snail mail anymore. They don’t send waitlist letters via snail mail anymore either.
My 2021 kid got acceptance mail from the places they were accepted with some stickers and other small items. Nothing from rejects besides the portal update and email. Nothing from waitlist school either.
Huge setback for S24 that has put the college app madness in perspective for us. He’s been in the hospital since Friday with a severe infection and is right now in surgery getting it drained. He seems out of the woods re the infection spreading, but he’s going to be here a few more days.
Fortunately, he got his UC app in last week (while feeling lousy from the then-undiagnosed infection). But he still has 7 RD apps to work on, and he was hoping to get a lot done during Thanksgiving break.
Just so glad the scary part is behind him and that he should fully recover. He’ll get the apps done…or not, and that’s ok. Health is the most important thing.
So sorry to hear this, hoping for a speedy recovery.
Trying to get a jump start at least thinking about holiday shopping. The age-old question, for those with kids doing ED1, would you order swag and then return it if the decision doesn’t go well (without telling them, of course), or would you feel you are jinxing the decision? If it was my kid, I would tell them not to buy anything, but does the same apply to us parents? With my oldest, I did buy a swag item that was only available for a short time and I was willing to eat the cost if kid didn’t get in (kid got in and was thrilled with the swag item on Christmas). I could just wait until decision day, though I’m afraid of size running out as that always seems to happen to me. And Amazon returns are pretty easy these days.
Other holiday shopping thoughts for your seniors?
We aren’t bothering right now to buy any college swag because D24 is really on the fence with what school she might end up at. We won’t know all of the decisions until Feb, maybe early March. So we’re going to wait before buying college t-shirts and sweatshirts.
This is a tough one but I think I’ll wait until December 15 before ordering, I am a little superstitious.
Some say jinx, some say manifest.
My husband and I blocked off the day after the ED1 decision is announced on our calendar. Should our son be accepted at his ED1 pick, we’ll hop in the car as soon as he leaves for school and make the 7-hour round trip to the college bookstore.
Not going to buy any swag until a decision is in. To me, it feels too much like tempting fate. I’ll see what I can get on-line if he gets in (no way am I hopping into the car to drive for merchandise).
I think that’s awesome. Fun reason for a road trip!
I need to simmer down here and just keep it in my cart (if I could decide on one lol), in case sizes get low.
