<p>Is it worth the $60 price tag tag to attend parent's weekend activities at USC? Are we better off paying the extra $35 for football tickets or buying our own through ticketmaster?</p>
<p>there are some really nice activities associated with the Parents weekend that you can only attend by buying he tickets…including an Open House at the President’s House on the Historic Horseshoe (with food and wine) a party with food, drinks including booze and music by the swimming pool at the Strom, access to sitting in on some preselected classes,a pregame tailgate with the USC Marching band performing (again, with food and booze). We enjoyed doing it all except for the pregame tailgate which was massive and in my opinion overcrowded.
USC does hospitality well. All the food was good and plentiful. It could save you from running around looking for places to eat.
The football tickets were way up in the nosebleed sections but fun anyway and Im not sure if your seats would be any better if you tried to buy them yourselves. We didnt attend until S was a senior.
Meeting the President and his wife was very nice. The gardens behind the President’s House, where the reception was held, are beautiful with some unusual plantings.
Many dep’ts have Open Houses on Parent’s Weekend as well that aren’t a part of the Parent Association “package”.
S and his girlfriend especially enjoyed attending the “Beach Bash” at the Strom with us as they had taken two classes (for credit!) in dance where they learned to “shag” to beach music which as I have learned, is the “official” dance and style of music in South Carolina. The classes were “Beginning Shag” and Intermediate Shag"!! These classes are very popular and close out quickly.
Have fun! I would say the cost of the tickets was worth it!</p>
<p>Anyone traveling to Columbia this weekend for Parent’s Day? Gamecock football is on a roll with its victory over Georgia last week. Enjoy your weekend visiting your students.</p>
<p>We’re going! Both our children went to boarding school which has two parent’s weekends per year (Spring & Fall). We also went to freshman year of college for both! This is going to be our nineteenth (and FINAL) parent’s weekend. I ALWAYS enjoy them and we did get tickets for the football game! Daughter’s sorority has a cocktail party so we will miss the Friday events. It should be perfect weather for the game and Furman better look out – Gamecocks are on a roll! Hope everyone has a great weekend.</p>
