I just got my acceptance letter from PC and it is one of my top schools along with a few others. I have a 3.8 GPA, so I’m a very good student but I also love to party. So when it comes to the parietals at PC I’m concerned with two things. 1-how strictly are they enforced in both girls and guys dorms? 2- if you’re discreet about it and you sneak someone of the opposite sex in, what are the chances of being caught by an RA or a security officer? also, can freshmen live in the coed dorms?
What state are you from? Sorry, I’m anxiously awaiting my decision and am hoping I will receive it tomorrow…
Anyway, from what I’ve heard when I visited, they’re much stricter with girls dorms than they are with guys. Not sure if I remember correctly, but I believe aquinas is co-ed and is for upperclassmen only. I wouldn’t freak out about it though, PC has prevalent nightlife and while most people find the parietals bothersome, people still find ways to have “fun.” The parietals start at 2 am on weekends, so it’s not like you’re never having people of the opposite sex in your room.
Best of luck with your decision; PC is an awesome school!
My sister went to school there and said they’re pretty strict about it. When she was there there were no parietals at the guys dorms, only the girls, so you could bring a girl to your dorm but you couldn’t go to hers. Like nj1818 said, they start late on weekends but don’t leave until about 10 am the next day. There’s definitely ways to get around it though, like if you go to someones dorm before the parietals arrive and sneak them out after they leave. You don’t have a good chance of getting caught unless someone on your floor tells your RA. Even then, normally the RA will just ask the person to leave and probably won’t call a security officer unless he/she really hates you. They do strictly enforce the rules though so there’s not really a way to get out of it without being discreet.
This all seems so old-fashioned.
Like when we were in college, eh @doschicos?
@neatoburrito, actually my dorm had coed floors and bathrooms back in the 80s, so it boggles my mind that PC is still so restrictive, especially having a double standard on enforcement between dorms for males and females. Bit, I know it is a Catholic institution, although I don’t think all Catholic colleges work that way.
My son is there and it doesn’t seem to be an issue at all. Most of the dorms are coed. He is in an apartment and there are girls right across the hall.
