Let’s say I got into NC State with a 23 Act. Should I even bother applying for the parks scholarship. I just don’t want my recommenders to do extra work if I barely have a chance of getting it.
Per the NC State website;
"most successful candidates have an A average and score higher than the average SAT score (1308 on a 1600 scale) or higher than the average ACT score (29 on a 36 scale) "
While there is no minimum your chances are very slim with a 23 ACT.
@PopBlox I hate to discourage anyone, but the Park is extremely competitive even with high scores. My D had a high ACT, was nominated for both the Park & the Morehead, did lots of work for the application process while also doing college applications, normal school work and was very stressed. She did not get either scholarship but did get others during the admissions process. So, don’t forget there are other scholarships you might qualify for later. I would recommend that you read through previous threads on the Park.
Most Park applicants are nominated by their school, if your school nominated you then I would apply, but unless you have exceptionally stellar ECs, likely a waste of time. I would look at the profiles of some of the recipients and see how you compare. They are available online. I know a few recipients and they mostly had 1400+ SATs or 31+ACTs and stellar ECs.
