Part IV: Comparisons of Highly Regarded Public Universities (USNWR 42-47)

In continuation of the recent posts drawing on information from the collegeboard.com website, I came up with some interesting comparisons on some more highly regarded Public Universities (this group involves the next 7 publics ranked by USNWR between 42-47).
Washington has nowhere near that top 10% number. A recent article put it closer to 50%.

barrons,
I checked my numbers and the U Washington Top 10% numbers above are what are being reported by collegeboard.com:

"84% in top 10th of graduating class
96% in top quarter of graduating class
100% in top half of graduating class"

I also checked the current online edition of USNWR (which presently is a year behind the collegeboard numbers) and they had 82%. However, there was a footnote stating that this represented less than 51% of the enrolled freshman.

Also, the 2006-07 CDS for U Washington also says 84%.

I see where the disconnect comes--only 46% submitted a HS rank.

The main takeaway from this post is that U Florida is an amazing value.

Agreed. If you can get in!

The major problem with UF is that faculty/student ratio. Look at the strength of the student body versus the cost of attendance. It's a great deal.

UF is awesome.
It's so underrated by people at my school, mostly because so many go there.

UF dealt major $$$ setback.

http://www.insidehighered.com/news/2007/05/29/florida

^^Yea, I find that pretty ridiculous to say the least.

If UF can figure out a work-around for the tution constraints and is allowed to hire more faculty, you will see it skyrocket in the standings. It is sad how the state legislature is not more supportive... maybe with time UF (and FSU) will be allowed a little more freedom...the return to the State's economic engine would be returned many times over.

Can you post the other factors like faculty awards and library holdings, like you posted earlier. It would also be interesting (for this and the first ranking for the top 10 publics) to point out which ones have a medical school, since that does have a major influence on research funding and the NAS faculty profile.

Crist is an FSU alumnus and I'm very disappointed in this decision. Especially dismayed an FSU alumnus myself.

All we can do is try again. Florida needs a tier system set up for the research universities.

All the numerical data except library is here.

Didn't Davis' acceptance rate dropped to 50% ish or 40%ish this year?
