Do parties ever happen at Pepperdine? I know it's a conservative school but it's still college. I don't want to go to a party school, which is why I'm considering Pepperdine, but I still want to go to a college where students party every so often. I heard that even if you drink off campus you could still get in trouble at school. Is this true?

Also, how enforced is the rule about having students of the opposite sex in your room after a certain time?

Due to the dry campus rule, basically all the parties are held off-campus. So there are definitely parties to go to if you want them, but if you’re not interested they won’t affect you at all.

If you’re 21 or older, you’re allowed to drink off-campus, but you’ll get in trouble if you’re drunk when you get back to the school (not for the drinking itself, but for the drunken behavior).

They’re very strict on not having students of the opposite sex in your room after the cut-off time (1:00 am). The RAs won’t come through and check if they don’t have reason to, but if they hear voices that shouldn’t be there they’ll check it out, and write you up if you’re caught.

Other than the married housing, none of the dorms are coed.

Is it hard to have relationships with rules like that? I really love Pepperdine, I just hate a lot of the strict rules! haha I want to be able to party when I want to, and have a girl sleep over once in a while even if it’s not sexual…idk i just think it’s unfair that 18-22 year olds are being told when and where you can socialize with the opposite sex

I was never in a serious relationship while at Pepperdine, so I can’t really comment there, but it was annoying even just in regards to having friends over. I had some friends in my room to watch a movie one night, we lost track of time, and when they left it was about 15 minutes past curfew. The guy got caught leaving, and we were all written up (only got a warning, though).

That said, though, some people do sneak around and sleep over without getting caught. So it is possible, if you’re careful (and maybe get lucky with lenient RAs).

My daughter’s friend transferred to USC after her 1st year. For her, the campus was too conservative, too religious, no boys in the room after curfew, even to watch a movie as ennaxor said, and not much to do on the weekends- a lot of people left. The campus is beautiful but fairly isolated. She had to leave campus to go to parties. And really, the last place you want to be driving on a Fri. or Sat. nite is on the PCH around Pepperdine. My son’s friend is going to law school there, but then he is 24 and living in Santa Monica.

Upperclassmen housing is way more lenient than freshman housing. None of the freshman dorms are coed. Towers, mainly a sophomore complex, is a coed building, but you need respective keys to get into girls/guys halls and the curfew rules still apply. With that being said, it’s very easy to get around the rule and sleep over/sneak out after hours and people do it all the time. It is pretty annoying that the rule even exists, but it’s understandable considering the school’s religious affiliation.
It’s not hard to have a relationship, no. You just have to make sure you have a chill roommate. If your RA is really strict, there’s not much you can do though.

Pepperdine is nestled in a residential community in Malibu. Some students rent houses in surrounding neighborhoods or in Calabasas, the neighboring town.

Pep students also attend parties at nearby USC, UCLA and LMU.

so the parties that are attended by Pepperdine students are either at private homes or at the neighboring colleges? - which, by the way, involves considerable driving time.

Is it true that the campus is really quiet and empty during the weekends?
Are there many things to do nearby (without having to use a car to travel around)?
