Party Scene and Greek Life

Hi so I'm wondering what the party scene at UNC is. I know that it isn't as hardcore as other schools like UT austin (which is notorious for parties) but are there hardcore parties around? And how accessible is alcohol to underage people? (please no lectures on underage drinking, I'm just curious)

Also, I've heard that Greek life is pretty laid back at UNC and rush isn't as cutthroat like many other southern schools (Bama, UT, Ole Miss...). Does this mean that they don't party as much? Or...actually what do people mean when they say it is more laid back? lol I'm just curious as to what the party scene at UNC is.

I can’t speak much to the Greek scene specifically, but as a whole UNC-Chapel Hill is not as big of a party school as many other large southern schools. If that’s what you are looking for, to be honest UNC might not be the right fit.

That said, Chapel Hill has a tremendously fun social scene, as well as an incredible arts and music scene. Franklin Street has many great bars (some clubs are 18+), and since a large number of juniors and seniors live off campus in nearby housing, there is a large off-campus house party scene as well.

There’s a lot going on in Chapel Hill every night. But you’ll see the some of the same people you saw out the night the before the next day at the library. (They may or may not be there to study – [other things have been known to go on…](<a href=“UNC Chapel Hill UL Flash Mob Rave - YouTube”>UNC Chapel Hill UL Flash Mob Rave - YouTube))
