<p>I am currently an out of state student at UNC. It seems like the party seen isn't what i expected to be coming from up north. I really regret not living in granville this year. Almost 100% of the other out of state students agree with me. I have heard that sophomore year gets a lot better than freshmen year. </p>
<p>I am most likely going to be living off campus next year, I know that will help a lot, but there aren't too many good bars here for us people with fake id's, and im not one whose gonna get into frats all the time. Also the house parties are always really packed. </p>
<p>I'm just wondering if other people agree with me, and/ or have had the same opinions and if not what they advise me to do, because I don't really want to transfer but I am not having as much fun on the weekends as I should be for all the money im spending.</p>
<p>As a sophomore, I will tell you that it does get better. Freshmen year you’re pretty much running around trying to find any party you can sneak into. By sophomore year, if you’re involved in clubs, you’ll be making a lot of older friends that live off campus and will have house parties. While as a freshmen my friends and I were desperate for plans, this year I find myself turning down parties because I’ll get invited to three in one night.</p>
<p>I’m an in stater but I had the same kind of negative feeling towards the UNC party scene. I hate frats, don’t like being in a packed room sweating with a bunch of other freshmen, etc.</p>
<p>Older friends with houses is key, and that will happen without you even planning on it. Don’t worry! :)</p>
<p>Wow, as a Raleigh parent I am glad to hear the party scene at UNC is not all that it is cracked up to be. This is really a suprise to me! Maybe I’ll send my daughter there afterall, as I really hope she takes her education seriously, and doesn’t spend her weekends trying to get into bars with a fake id. :D</p>
<p>Oh and ps, I am an out of state student and don’t know any other out of state student that agrees with you. Again, join some student organizations, it’ll help.</p>
<p>trust me im in enough organizations, and i probably should have rephrased that. I am an out of stater from the northeast, and I havent meant a single person from the northeast that doesn’t agree with me. </p>
<p>Im pretty sure everyone is right that sophomore year will be way better, its just weird how different it is here. I have been to several different colleges here, and the on campus drinking scene is sooo much more prominent at other schools than it is here. And there really arent nearly as many crazy and wild parties. Is it just cuz i live in south campus and its my freshmen year? or is it just that UNC is so good academically that it loses some of the party atmosphere?</p>

<p>I mean. It’s not that the parties are going to get WILDER. I kind of thought you just meant actual quality parties. I don’t think anything gets wilder than St. A’s or Granville, though I could be wrong.</p>
<p>well i kind of assumed actual quality parties would improve just because quality parties tend to be people you are actually friends with, but ur saying granville is the only dorm that gets kinda crazy? thats just weird to me, but that also shows y i feel the way i do. living in south campus kind of created a generalization for me i think</p>

<p>being an out of stater, im spending a lot more money and giving up on a lot of things to go here, where i could have gone to other schools for almost free, i also would be able to see my family and my friends back at home more, I know that this place has opportunities and experiences i wont get anywhere else (2009 NATIONAL CHAMPS BABY!), but I dont feel like im having enough fun during that i should be for everything im giving up, and we only get these 4 years once</p>

<p>i’m a senior in raleigh, nc and i’m having a hard time deciding on where i want to go next year. my options are going to ucla/uci in california or to go to UNC. if i decide to go to unc, i could go for free which is great but i want my college experience to be fun, too.</p>
<p>people keep telling me “UNC is the best, it’s so much fun!” but i’m not getting that vibe.</p>
<p>the smart thing for ME to do is to go to UNC because it’s a free, excellent education. but, i truly want to attend school in CA and the only thing stopping me is the OOS tuition. i have to make a decision asap - do i pay the OOS tuition for cali or go to UNC? i’m not sure what to do yet so, i’d really like your opinions, guys</p>

<p>Yes, your freshman year, sometimes it’s really hard on campus to find magical free beer fountains, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not fun. I’m sure that the California schools are also super fun, but that doesn’t mean that UNC isn’t. It’s is RIDICULOUSLY fun. Too fun! It’s hard to get studying done because all the FUN that’s going on!</p>
<p>This just goes to show how biased most unc people are. I never once said its not fun at all, and I don’t have fun, and you are going crazy about how theres no way its no fun. And trust me I have been to: Michigan, Loyola, Quinnipiac, Umass, Northeastern, and UNH. All of these schools are much more fun. Of course there is stuff to do here, but seriously saying you almost cant study cuz theres so much do. Lets be real here. There are way more people studying on a thursday night than people going out. It somewhat funny to see unaware people are of how different it really is here.</p>

what else is there to do for fun? college is what you make of it, i know, but i want to hear what students doing to enjoy their college experience</p>
<p>i was just at UNC yesterday afternoon with a friend to pick up their sister… honestly, the campus is beautiful and students looked pretty cool, too. but, it’s a college-town and i feel like i’m better suited in a city.</p>
