Party Scene

Got cut off-Underage drinking is a MISDEMEANOR in North Carolina (unlike many other states)meaning if you are caught you will have to do community service to erase your record or you will always have to answer that you have been convicted of a crime on future grad school applicantions.

DUke won't help you at all- ALE is notorious for sting operations and the Durham police HATE Duke students . . until they change the ridiculous drinking age of 21, I would be very careful--

Only good thing--there are some great Durham defense attorneys around--like Bill Thomas, Bob Estrand.--They represent lots of Duke kids.

Um...keep your drink in an opaque cup, don't throw up in public, and don't talk to the 40 year old undercover guy standing outside the party asking kids "Hey, you drinking tonight?" and you'll be fine.

^^ That's just pathetic if undercover cops actually show up and pull **** like that. That's why I'll always have no sympathy for cops, and moreso, pity them.

they are never undercover...

anyway, its really hard to get busted - you have to get unlucky. if you are on campus you won't be sighted. they are more 'safety guards' than police looking to screw you over. if you go off campus you can get sighted, but still you have to get unlucky.

if you are throwing up in a bush and sighted by a cop, pretend to pass out lol. if you are taken to the ER you won't get in trouble. they prefer that you get medical help if thats what is needed.

I assume you meant "cited," not "sighted."

Well, the cops themselves don't go undercover, but you'll find some ALE guys in plainclothes a lot, trying to write people up.

not on campus though

I am a minority and I am wondering do the non Panhellenic frats accept black members? I will probably join a Pan frat, but I just want to inquire as to the overall diversity of the Duke social life in that regard.

Yes, they do accept black members.
