''party school''

What makes ECU the ''party school''. I already know some people don't believe in party schools because every school has parties BUT some schools, do party more than others. So I'm just wondering , is that all ecu is good for?

I don’t think it’s much of a party school now. Of course it is a little bit, but think it only has the reputation of that because it was REALLY bad a long time ago. I know a few people who went in the late 70’s-early 90’s. I definitely wouldn’t say that’s “all it’s good for”. I’m going to be an upcoming freshman in the fall and know a little bit about it, as I live a hour away from the campus. I would say that ECU has solid medicine/nursing and teaching programs. Most of my teachers went to ECU or transfered to ECU and I believe the Brody School of Medicine is one of the best medicine programs in the country.

Oh Okay. I like the school , but it just has a bad reputation.

East Carolina is still considered a joke by a lot of people in NC. The academics are watered down and weak. ANYBODY can get in ECU !!!

DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE YOU GO TO THIS LAME SCHOOL !!!

^^^ really?! then why bother going into a schools page saying that? that’s really stupid and ignorant.

btw… if a school has one of the top medical programs in the country then how could it be considered a joke? Plus it’s a HUGE teaching school. Yeah it’s easy to get into… but I also see a lot of 3.5+ GPA’s going there and a lot of potential teachers (for whatever reason) seem to transfer to ECU after 2 years or whatever.

Maybe you should do your homework before going into a schools message boards and bashing it. :-/

OK… it is a party school, to a certain extent. I have been there at night and witnessed the party scene. There is a large one, but a lot of large schools have that.

Being a 20,000 student+ institution which accepts only 18% OOS students, some people go to East Carolina and take it as a joke- party hard, etc. Some of these people end up dropping out or failing out. But to say that the school is only good for this is totally false. My brother currently is enrolled in the Honors College as an OOS student. He and all his peers work very hard and learn well in the school- the same goes for his fraternity brothers who are not in the Honors College.

The main point is yes- there is a party aspect, but if you want to study and learn, you can DEFINITELY do that here and find a balance between fun and work.

ECU has a lot of great programs and offers a great college experience. It is entirely up to the individual whether they get caught up in partying or not. I have a S who will graduate from ECU this week. It has been the perfect place for him. I have another S who graduated from another NC state u. There was plenty of partying there and at every state u in the state. He had friends at all of them and visited often. It is what you make of it.

I have done my research on the school but I was trying to hear from others about the school. I’ve already visited the school and the tour guide only showed me places of where students “hang out” thats it. This is why I was wondering more about the school.

But thanks everyone
