As my senior year of high school rapidly approaches and my ACT date set for two weeks from now, I feel as if I'm a bit behind on the whole college-selection-and-application process. As of right now, I feel like I have compiled a solid list of some schools that I would consider on a range from target to reach, but haven't really formed a true application list, per se. I am wondering if there are any other schools that I may have missed that are academically respectable but still have a strong social presence. I would ideally like to a school with a lot of parties and the like, but still don't want to downsize my own academic capabilities in the process.

Here's some more information: I'm from New York and will mostly be applying to schools in the general area; no farther west than Illinois, farther north than Vermont and no farther south than Washington, D.C.

You are not providing enough information. How do we know what schools you’re missing if we don’t know which ones you already have on your list or anything about your qualifications?

Need a lot more info. Are you a big city type, or do you prefer the small town life? Do you want a greek scene or the bar scene?

Also, need some stats to point you in the right direction.

Typical responses would be:

City-Type:
BC, BU, Northeastern, NYU, Fordham, Georgetown, American, etc.

Small-Town Type:
UVM, UNH, UMass Amherst, UConn, Villanova (could be on either list, but experience says here), Syracuse, tons of LACs in the northeast, etc.

All of these schools are respected academically and have fun student bodies. They are just very different in atmosphere. The big city kids tend to go to bars and/or clubs, restaraunts, etc. They tend to have more oprtions. The small town kids tend to have parties, but still have the local dive bar for the students.

University of Wisconsin is the ultimate combination of academics and parties–always in the top 10 of top party schools (number one a few years ago I believe), one of the top 5 college towns and sporting cities in the country, and it was recently ranked 17th in the world by those Chinese rankings, although they are based on the output of the science departments
