Pass/No Pass frowned upon?

so I'm currently majoring in mechanical engineering and am thinking of taking a few courses pass no pass this year for my ge's

how much do grad programs look down on this? do they even care as long as its not related to my major? just kind of curious how impactful it would be

is there an unspoken number you can take P/NP and still be okay?

ive heard rumors that grad schools are really harsh about it, but i think its just a rumor and curious to hear what other's experiences are with PNP classes

I took two classes (both in my major) pass/fail. I didn’t encounter any problems.

as long as you havent taken all of your classes p/np, and you have upper levels in your major with a grade then its fine.
