Passion versus Leadership in my essay

Background: 2390 sat, perfect gpa, so grades etc are not an issue, but im trying to give myself a decent chance at getting into the ivy leagues.
I am a junior right now but nonetheless giving some early thought on a general essay topic. One idea that I am really passionate about is my experiences with running long distance in track and field and my struggles with anemia that I had to overcome to be able to run normally again. On the other hand I have extremely few leadership positions- 1 very small one involving a club and 1 decent one involving training volunteers. Thus, my other option would be to talk about certain small moments in which I leadership. It would most likely lack the passion of the first option, but otherwise I am pretty lacking in leadership. Or are both of these mediocre essay ideas and I should write about something else?

Edit: And I cannot really combine the two since I have zero leadership in track and field right now and even if I start right this moment trying to get some I wont end up with much.

There is also a chance of me being able to become president of math club in my senior year. I admittedly would be doing it mostly (but not completely) to improve my resume. I realize that they are much more interested in accomplishments, but would the title help at all?

You can ever write about candies, frogs, or CC. You DON’T have to write about a sport or leaderships. Write about whatver describes you the most as a person.

Running is almost definitely what describes me most as a person. So I should just write about that and take the hit on lack of leadership?

There is phenomenal advice on the essay forum about getting started on an essay. For starters, don’t think so hard about what you want your essay to convey. Sometimes writing honestly without such a pointed goal will better illustrate your point.

With your stats I would not write an essay on your leadership or on track unless you have something truly different to say. They get that from your EC list. If you use humor well write something funny. If you have a unique hobby or interest, write about that. The point is to capture their interest with something different and memorable.

^Hopefully you are smart enough to disregard this post.

Communicate your unique personality. That’s what matters. The essay will be your only way to translate your personality to the admissions board. They want a glimpse of you, not necessarily a glimpse of you running or leading or volunteering.
