<p>I am an immigration lawyer trying to write an article about university financial aid officers not accepting US passports as proof of citizenship but insisting on certificates of citizenship. <p>Not sure why they would ask for an actual proof of citizenship… My daughter is a naturalized citizen (thru her parents’ naturalization) and only has a passport (without a certificate of citizenship). She is just starting college this week in an in-state public school. </p>
<p>While I have friends who obtained certificates of citizenship for their children “just to be safe”, I have always chalked it up to paranoia.</p>
