Question regarding Citizenship

This will be a bit of long post, so bare with me here. :)

So, I am a U.S. citizen, with legal documentation. However, Social Security wasn't able to verify this, leading to problems with colleges. I called Social Security, and they were able to verify that I am a citizen, but the colleges want documentation. I have a certificate, but I also want to send my certificate of naturalization as a back-up. However, the certificate states..."It is punishable by U.S. law to copy, print, or photograph this certificate, without lawful authority."

So, can I scan it and email it? This is an original copy. I'm not going to mail it off to colleges, or drive hours to show them..Is it legal to do this under these circumstances? Thanks in advance.

Pick up the phone and call the schools. They will be able to tell you what you need to do.

My son had the same problem with SSA verification. I called all the schools and they only needed a copy of his passport.

The schools will not expect you to send any originals.

My passport expired, so, that isn’t really an option for me. :/

I’m going to call the schools and see what I can do about this.

Even an expired US Passport should count. It is able to be used as documentation on the I-9 for employment…

An expired passport is valid proof of citizenship. What do you think you will use when you apply for a new one? Your old expired one of course!
