Paterno still highest paid at PSU

"Joe Paterno, 84-year-old coaching legend and Penn State University's highest paid employee, now has something in common with other Pennsylvanians who have been slammed by the bad economy: His earnings are off, too.

The football coach about to enter his 46th season still does well, with total compensation of more than $1 million during 2009, according to newly released tax data...

...Among the university's top five earners, he was the only one to see a decline in total earnings, according to the Penn State data. The others saw increases ranging from 2 to 31 percent...

...Penn State President Graham Spanier. His total compensation of $813,855 -- up by about 2 percent or $14,469 -- included $620,004 in base pay..."

Paterno still highest paid at PSU, but his pay fell

I think that puts him (at best) in the mid-range for the Big Ten. (I believe Jim Tressel was paid $3.5M; obviously money can’t buy integrity.) And JoePa has been generous to the university, giving <$4M in gifts and more to the local community. I’m not saying it isn’t time for him to step down.

And…don’t forget the Paterno Library which he and his wife helped fund. There are a lot of great things he has helped with, but building a Football Coach funding a Library on a college campus…how often does that happen. I for one am OK with him being paid more then the University President…(no offense to graham spanier…)

Deserves every penny of it, for all that he’s done for the school and community.
