Hello! I committed to Tulane today (!!!) and now I'm trying to figure out my housing application. I was wondering if anybody on this forum had experience with Paterson? I haven't seen much about it here but I was thinking about it as my first choice--I'm a vegetarian planning to transition to veganism when I get to college, can probably be considered a "hippie" on some level, etc. The idea of a wellness dorm (that isn't necessarily based around being "substance free") appeals to me. I haven't been able to find out much about the actual environment inside the dorm, though. Is it loud? Is it a close-knit community or a little more isolated? Basically any information I could get about living in Paterson would be great. Thanks so much!

I don’t really know too much about it other than it’s small and really not hippieish. Do a search and you’ll find posts from students who have lived there.

You might have to search “Patterson” as well. A lot of people misspell it, even those that live there!

Congrats on getting in! I’m a freshman at Tulane now and I live in Paterson. I absolutely love it. It’s definitely not loud, and within the dorm there’s a strong sense of community. I know almost every freshman in the building and the majority of sophomores as well. I’ve definitely never felt isolated. It help that it’s so close to the dining hall and one of the quads people play frisbee/tan on constantly. I wouldn’t worry too much about Paterson being too substance-free… It’s no Sharp or Monroe, but there’s plenty of, err, substance to be found. If you live on the second floor you’ll have a balcony, and there’s also a decent kitchen to cook in too, which is super useful (I’m vegan too!) Living in Paterson has been absolutely great, and it made my freshman year so much better. If you have any questions feel free to message me :)
