pausing foreign language to take physics? soph year

Hi, I’m a sophomore. I want to pursue something physics-related, so I’m trying to take my school’s physics classes asap. However, i have a little scheduling problem:

I would have to choose between spanish 2 or physics honors - Language is the recommended choice. This year I’m already taking biology (required). If I take physics this year, I can apply to STEM-esque summer programs next year, and I’ll be able to take the ap physics c exams in my junior year. I can pick up spanish in my senior year. During the pause, I can self study so I can graduate with spanish 3 or 4 (maybe ap). I think taking physics may help my college applications, but I’m also afraid pausing language will hurt my application… soooo - ?

Will it look bad to colleges if I pause foreign language? Like, will it look to aggressive or something? Also, do colleges have a preference on whether you take ap physics junior or senior year? Thanks!

No advantage to taking it junior year versus senior year.

Or you take physics next year and apply to STEM-esque summer programs that summer, when you’d have a better chance of being accepted anyway.

While true, it matters not when you take it.

Doubling up on a subject at the expense of another core class is not a good idea, IMO.

Doubtful that you would be successful in this strategy. Just take the Spanish class as recommended.

Agreee with @skieurope …most STEM summer programs would be accepting Juniors. I don’t see an advantage to doubling up on sciences…

There’s no advantage to taking Physics now. Breaking the foreign language study sequence after a year will make your skills so rusty you’ll struggle junior year (and your plan to somehow self study with only one year as a foundation is just wishful thinking).
Take Physics next year and senior year , or if you’re truly passionate see if you can take some Physics -related classes at a community college through dual enrollment.
