Paying for college? / Scholarships?

I got into one of my top choice schools (the University of Rochester) and am extremely excited about it! Unfortunately, once I add room and board to the tuition and subtract the merit scholarship I received, its still extremely expensive, around $43,000 per year. This is obviously a lot, and I’m wondering about other ways to try and pay for it? I could probably get a job, and apply for private scholarships. But is there anything else I can do?

You didn’t get any need based aid? I don’t think a job will make much of a dent in it. A school year job can pay for your personal expenses. A summer job can earn you about 3k unless you have some skills. Large scholarships are hard to find and often they are for needy students. If your efc is 43k or higher you won’t qualify. And scholarship search should have been last fall, many deadlines have passed.

A dilemma of many, many students and why most will attend one of their safety schools and not one out of financial reach.

Was the $43k somehow a surprise? Did you know what it cost when you applied? Did you run the net price calculator? What is your EFC?

Did you ask your parents how much they can pay?
