Next fall I will be transferring to an university in Chicago. I will be living in off-campus housing and getting a part-time job (hopefully) shortly after I move there. However, I am nervous that finding a job won't happen right away. Also, I have no idea how much I will be making. This makes taking out student loans to supplement my income hard to do. I want to take out as little as possibly, naturally. However, moving with no job lined up it seems smart to take out enough to cover rent, utilities, food and transportation if I don't get a job in the first couple months, but what if getting a job is harder than I thought and I need more!

Has anyone been in this situation? How much did you take out for student loans or how long did it take to find a job? I imagine it will be easier finding a job once I can apply with a Chicago address. Is this how it is?

Any other insights would be appreciated?
