Paying for Stanford

Hi everyone,

I have been following CC for a while now, though I just joined. This has been a wealth of information for me. Thank you. Now to the good problem to have, I suppose. My daughter was accepted to Stanford. YAY!!! The school gave us zero financial aid. NAY!!! She has sent out many applications for scholarships and has yet to hear any results. I have made it my full-time “job” to search for scholarships for her to apply. Meaning, I have been on every scholarship site there is to find.

My question: Does anyone know of corporations that have previously given grants/scholarships for merit to females in the computer science field? I feel like I haven’t turned over every stone there is to turn. Oh, and she’s Hispanic too. Many of the scholarships for Hispanics are need-based. That won’t help us.

We will appeal their lack of financial aid once we do our taxes. With the 21 BILLION dollars that Stanford has in endowments you would think they would give us something. Anything is better than zero.

I don’t have any ideas but I wanted to congratulate your daughter and your family! Stanford is the one school I’d go out on a limb for financially (not that we want to LOL).

Hope you can find some good options.

Is it that you cannot afford to pay for Stanford or that you do not want to pay or make the sacrifices necessary? Stanford appears to believe the latter.

Thank you, SouthFloridaMom9.

TomSrOfBoston, We have another child that is following the same footsteps and my daughter. We want to be able to afford and provide him with the same opportunities. Paying 100% of Stanford’s tuition would not allow us that opportunity. We can pay a good chunk of it. But, without going into details, feel that we have special circumstances that will, hopefully, have them give my daughter some money.
