Paying for UCLA

I got into UCLA, which is so fantastic because I'm slowly warming up to going there instead of UC Berkeley.

The problem is, I have no idea how I'm going to pay for UCLA.

I live in the Bay Area, with unemployed parents on government assistance. My EFC is 0. My Financial Aid page says I will be responsible for about $9,900.

I applied to the Gates Millennium Scholarship, which I didn't get. I also applied to the UCLA Freshmen Alumni Scholarship AND the Bunche Scholarship, and apparently results are out, but I have not gotten any notification yet. Which probably means I did not get them.

I just don't understand. I really don't want to borrow ~10k a year and I honestly thought I would get something. I applied to 8 scholarships, and not getting 3 of them from the get-go really isn't looking good for me. 3 of them are Bay Area/Berkeley exclusive, which means I'm riding my hopes on 2 scholarships that add up to about $7k, but I honestly don't think I'll get them.

How am I going to pay for UCLA? Loans? I'll be in massive debt by the time I graduate, and I'm looking into Med School after that. Getting into UCLA made my day better, but thinking about money (or the lack thereof) just made my day worse.

I am so sorry, I posted this in the wrong forum.

COUGH I still have the same issue with college anyway, does anyone have any idea on how to help me?

At Berk fin aid covers everything, but half will be loans…

At the very worst, you could go to what would be your safety school and get a bunch of merit aid. I know, it sucks that you got into UCLA and can’t go. There are a lot of scholarships out there (fastweb.com), which since you have an EFC of 0 and got into UCLA, you should be pretty competitive for. If you need 10k an year, you can just compete for a bunch of smaller scholarships and it’ll add up. You only need to come up with the 10k for freshman year right now and can win more scholarships at UCLA.
