paying for UT

I am applying oos and have pretty good stats. So far i have been accepted to ASU, Uof AZ, and Madison WI. ASU and UofAZ have given me $30k+ which makes it very affordable for an oos student. If i do get accepted to UT, is there anychance of getting reduced tuition in the form of scholarships? And does UT automatically consider you for merit scholarships?

Unless you are a Valedictorian, or near, it is very difficult to get merit scholarships from UT. Their scholarships are 90%+ need-base, and I don't know anyone who has been offered any money as of yet.

Unless you in deep deep financial need, this will most likely not happen.

UT doesn't need to offer scholarships, because of the sheer numbers of those apply, if you chose not to go there, they could care less.

Well im ranked 4th so ill cross my fingers really hard.

Mind posting your "stats?, I think that will give a better indication of your chances.

3.9 unweighted GPA
31 ACT
rank 4/300

Ehh, you probably have no chance at getting a academic scholarship, sorry. Your standardized test scores are probably way too low, unless you have some ridiculous amount of service hours or something, there is just no way. I know people that were ranked number 1(well 4.5 but we had like 30 of those last year) with 1450+ SAT and they didn't get a dime. They were able to get some scholarships from other sources, but didn't get anything from UT directly.

I have a 32 ACT and got full scholarship from UT Dallas, but I know I won't get anything.

Too bad. Looks like ill be attending AZ.

I wouldn't give up hope Mustang. I didn't even fill out a scholarship form, am from out of state, had similiar stats to you (worse rank, but great ECs) and received an out of state waiver ($15,000+ value each year). People told me I had no chance of even being admitted, and not only was I admitted, but with a scholarship and to the business school.

there is hope yet!!

how did you get the out of state tuition waiver?! was it like a departmental thing or part of your financial aid package or what?

Don't you get an out of state waiver if you're a National Merit Finalist?

Two years ago they offered my son 5000 per year with SAT 1540(CR+MA).
He did not apply any aid because he got in ED with other school.

Was that the only reason he got one? I have a 1530 and am praying for scholarships.

Did you fill out the Financial Aid application that was due on December 1? In that application, it basically used one form to apply for aid and a bunch of different merit scholarships.

I'm not exactly sure how I got my waiver. I am not National Merit Finalist and received the waiver in June, after I said I was attending in April - quite odd, but I'm not complaining. From what I've heard some other out of state students have had this happen too even if they didn't fill out a scholarship app. I think Texas might go back and give waivers to strong candidates. A 1540 SAT would most definitely qualify (mine was 1420).

THe engineering website says that out-of-state students with SAT's over 1500 MAY be offered an out-of-state tuition waiver. :)
