Paying the BruinBill with Paper Checks from ScholarShare 529

Has anyone paid their BruinBill from the ScholarShare 529 plan? ScholarShare will not transfer funds electronically to UCLA, but ScholarShare will mail a paper check to UCLA. Does this method of payment work satisfactorily (i.e., having ScholarShare mail a check to UCLA)?

Thank you.

@Interested_Dad That would be a question for Ucla Bruin bill. Their phone can be easily found. Call them for specifics. You’ll want to get concrete info on that.

@Interested_Dad I don’t know about the check, although that would probably be fine. However, another option is to have money from your ScholarShare 529 plan transferred electronically to your bank account (or your child’s) and then pay the BruinBill electronically by linking to that account. That’s what I’ve done for the last two years without any problems.

@Interested_Dad Yes - having Scholarshare mail a check to UCLA is satisfactory. So far my parents have used Scholarshare to pay for housing and there were no problems at all. The check was mailed a day after ordering it and UCLA received it a few days later. There was an option to pay for expedited shipping but expedited shipping doesn’t seem necessary.

I used the ScholarShare plans for my son’s and I just had the money transferred into my checking account and paid then paid electronically as @Mom2ji stated, not for UCLA but another UC. It should not be an issue.

I electronically have 529 funds deposited into my kid’s account, and he pays his Bruin bill online. Why complicate things with a physical check?

Thank you, everyone. I really appreciate the responses.
